, he thought as he darted off the stairs, for now oblivious of Darui observing him from a window nearby.
From the main room it wasn’t hard to spot the two individuals fighting on the catwalk. No doubt both of them had been stealthy at first since he hadn’t been able to spot either of them, but it was hard to keep a low profile while trying to bash each other’s brains in. The one donned in the white cloak was obviously Sasuke, the other one was someone he immediately recognized.
”The Copy Ninja?” This could be a problem. Hebi’s motive had been to execute the tasks the Miyamoto had given them without being seen. Now that Kakashi had ruined that, their best bet was to kill the Copy Ninja to prevent him from spreading the word, and fast enough so that they’d be well away from this place before someone stumbled upon the corpses. But a shinobi of Kakashi’s level wasn’t someone who would be taken down quickly, not without going all out in which case the flashy attacks going around would draw too much attention. Having the advantage of two versus one did not change this.
Then there was Ruuji’s own desire to face the Copy Ninja and see what he was made of, though that was spoiled by Sasuke’s desire to exterminate any non-Uchiha sharingan wielders with his own hands. The Uchiha was unlikely to want to have Ruuji involved in the fight, or at best he’d allow the lizardman to help him as a backup, but right now a one-on-one confrontation with Kakashi was out of the question.
Well in that case, why not spoil the fun for Sasuke as well?
One shushin and he was behind Kakashi standing on the far end of the catwalk, the distance between the two brawlers a few meters. As the wood creaked underneath his weight, Ruuji flung three shuriken at the fighting duo. In their current position the blades would sink into the flesh of Kakashi’s back, but in a fast taijutsu match positions could be swapped almost instantly. Ruuji was well aware of this…
What he hadn’t been aware of until a second ago was the status of the wooden catwalk. One final creak and the bracings gave in, handing control over the bar and the three men standing on it to gravity.
He had completely pushed the thought of Ubume from his mind by now. Her lack of presence had gotten her labeled as a subject that did not require him to split his attention further at the minute. She was probably observing like him, playing the part of a fly on the wall. However, he still had a small flag in his mind that said he expected her to make another appearance before the end of this fight.
The figure he had just witnessed murder the two men in the room through the window seemed to fail to detect his presence. Darui’s lips curled downwards in a displeased frown and he lowered his head slightly behind the high collar of his black shirt, narrowing his eyes. Shifting his position slightly, Darui attempted to see what captivated his current target’s interest as powerfully as though he were concentrating on an opponent. Unfortunately, though, the angle of the window was a few degrees off of a position that would allow the dark-skinned Kumogakure shinobi to see what else was taking place.
Cursing silently under his breath, Darui kept his body still and tense as he prepared to move at any given moment. Instead, though, his target vanished in a flash, undoubtedly a Sunshin no Jutsu. Darui took this brief time to slip into the main building from where he’d been standing between the two layers of its structure. An easy jump to the outer shell of cover a short distance away before propelling himself through the empty gap of a window with a second jump allowed him entrance. He landed silently, crouching with the kunai raised by his chin.
Everything in his immediate surroundings was relatively quiet, but moments of silence revealed the comparatively quiet shifting of feet against what had to be wood, and dull thuds that Darui guessed were indicators of blows being exchanged hand-to-hand or heavier steps upon wood.
Then, a pained creek.
That doesn’t sound good…
Another creak, and then the sound of splintering wood and fracturing metal.
Guess it was due for renovations…
Putting the pieces together for a first-guess assumption was easy enough for Darui, Kakashi had gotten to engage one of their current targets in combat, while the one he had just seen assassinate the two men had went to join them, undoubtedly to aid his partner against Kakashi. His added weight, though, brought the beam’s end, and now they were left to the forces of nature.
Drawing three shuriken in his free hand, he launched them as soon as the figure he’d just seen came back into sight from falling. Darui stayed near the ‘window’ for the possibility of attempting to change the inevitable fight’s location if needed.
