The Dragon Claw from Blaze managed to impact its designated target, the power from the blow pushing the Flygon away. This would’ve usually been the deciding attack in a conventional confrontation with any other trainer, but to both Blaze and Lance, this was not the case. Lance smirked mentally as his eyes trailed the Flygon as it rolled out of the attack and managed to correctly its flight path, flying right past him and back into the battle without any signs of any visible damage.
He was indeed impressed that the fragile looking dragon managed to take on the brute force of Blaze’s attack, an attack that was supposedly effective against dragon-types, and just buffed it off like it was nothing. For a slight moment his red eyes shifted towards Alyssa, his posture and stance remaining unfazed, even as the Flygon had swooped past him. He couldn’t help but feel a slight glimmer of admiration for the trainer, only a glimmer, but to earn that much from the Indigo Champion after one attack was more than what most gained after countless battles with him. She was indeed a fine trainer and for her to basically remove the only true weakness from a dragon was an amazing feat, something he thought only he had achieved.
Adjusting his eyes back to the battle he traced the Flygon’s movements into the sky and observed as it launched a Rock Slide attack.
Clever Alyssa, utilizing an attack that Blaze is weak against, and using the aerial advantage to allow better coverage for the attack. However…
The flame on Blaze’s tail flickered in anticipation of the incoming attack. He knew what was going to happen next. Having battled alongside Lance for all these years the red dragon knew his trainer’s thought patterns, so predicting the next command from the Dragon Master was but a natural fact.
”It’s time to light up the sky Blaze.” Lance announced.
Unleashing yet another roar, almost in response to his trainer’s words but also sending a declaration to the Flygon in the sky above, the flame on Blaze’s tail erupted up in size and intensity. The air around Blaze began to radiated heat, as the flame raged like an inferno, its size now nearly four times its original size, reaching up to his wings height. His eyes fixed upon the Flygon and the boulders plummeting towards the earth, Blaze’s mouth opened up towards the sky and from it a torrent of flames poured forth. A river of flames gushed from Blaze’s mouth, almost overwhelming the dragon due to the enormous amount of flames that come forth, creating a massive pillar of fire that was nearly larger than the pokemon’s body.
Lance watched proudly as the Blast Burn stretched up into the night sky, lighting up the battlefield like a winter dawn. The heat was so intense that Lance could feel it on the skin on his face from where he was standing and the ground directly under Blaze began to scorch and burn from it, almost turning red in response. No doubt Alyssa could feel it too, if not as much as Lance, but her Flygon would certainly experience it.
The torrent of flames continued off in the air at a speed, engulfing the fallings rocks in their path towards Blaze. Even as they travelled through the inferno, the heat began melting the rocks as they continued to fall, reducing the once menacing boulders to nothing more than puddle of molten rock in mere seconds as they splattered around Blaze’s form. The boulders however had not halted the flames path and the Blast Burn continued its journey towards its intended target: Flygon. Whether it evaded or not, it would still feel the intense heat from the attack as the pillar of flames speed off into the atmosphere, before dissipating into nothingness.
Looking back at Alyssa, Lance had to narrow his eyes to see her clearly beyond the heat radiation in the air and ground that distorted her appearance and threatened to burn his eyes. ”Did you know…that a charizard’s flames possess enough heat to melt boulders and that the more experienced it is the more intense its flames…mmm? So do you understand the opponent your dealing with? ” He paused, looking towards his beloved charizard. Blaze was breathing heavy slightly from the exhaustion caused by the attack, but his eyes were fixated above at the Flygon, his eyes blazing with unmatched intensity.
”…You are fighting against my strongest and most experienced battler, rightfully called Blaze the Inferno.” [/style] [style=font-family: arial; font-size: 9px; text-align: center; text-transform: uppercase;]TAGS, Alyssa NOTES, A bit much? CODED BY TSU DOLL OF LOVE STAMP.[/style] |

Flygon’s eyes narrowed when the Charizard’s flamed tale burned brighter than ever, growing in size and intensity, the light coming from it illuminating the shadowed battleground on which they stood. He curled his tail up and lashed it back and forth in a slow, deliberate motion. It was a sign that he was concentrating, for the lashing was not uncontrolled and erratic as it would have been if he were angry. Alyssa could practically sense her companion’s concentration and thinking through possible scenarios depending upon how the Charizard he now looked down upon moved. Alyssa turned her gaze from Flygon to Lance. The Flame pokémon on the ground and his powerful trainer had undoubtedly come to a point in their lives after working together for years that they were able to understand each other in a battle, with only the slightest indications of acknowledgement to another…a means of battling without direct verbal commands. The white-haired trainer was the same with a number of her pokémon, though not all. Swampert and Daybreak were by far the most keen to show that they were trained well enough to fight tactically on their own, whereas Flygon required a bit of prompting before such.
However, once he got the ‘all clear’ he seemed to wait for in battle, he was an interesting opponent to say the least. He behaved much how Alyssa assumed a wild Flygon would. The trickery hidden within his personality came through, and he allowed himself to fall into instincts rather than training. His movements changed, as did his attack pattern and movements. Alyssa knew that although her pokémon had a heart for pranks and affection towards humans and pokémon he cared about, his true passion was battling. When pushed down, he would pick himself back up, and pay minimal mind to any blows he took, even if they were powerful or effective, as the Dragon Claw had been. He would become aware of it later, after the intensity of battle subsided, of course…but his mind set allowed him minimal distraction unless the blow was severe enough to take him out entirely.
”It’s time to light up the sky, Blaze.”
Both the opposite trainer from the one that had spoken and her pokémon tensed, and the early night sky was split by another roar. Flygon hovered from side to side in anticipation of a move, his eyes not once leaving the Charizard. If Lance intended to attack from that level, it would undoubtedly be a ranged attack. A Fire-type technique… Alyssa thought, narrowing her eyes and curling her fingers into the her narrow hipbones. Lance knew that Dragon’s weren’t especially affected by Fire-type attacks, but that damage could still be dealt. It’s going to be powerful… she thought, biting her lip slightly as she flipped through the powerful Fire techniques she knew.
Overheat…Flare Blitz…Eruption… Blast Burn …Fire Blast…Heat Wave…Inferno…?
As the Charizard’s mouth opened, the torrent of flames that got released was almost instantaneous. Fire poured from the pokemon’s mouth, through its gullet from its body. From its heart…Blast Burn Alyssa silently added as she watched the spectacular flames race upwards towards Flygon and the falling rocks. The earthen stone was met with blistering hot flames and the light erupted, as though flames had met tinder for the fire. Over the roar of the flames she heard the faint hum of Flygon’s wings, signaling increased vibrations of the pokemon’s strokes, increasing the speed at which his wings move. She saw Flygon’s mouth open and she knew instantly what he was going to do. She concealed her smirk to no more than the faintest twitch of her lips.
Her pokémon let loose a red-orange stream of fire from his mouth in the form of Flamethrower to meet the Blast Burn, which now continued on their own from Charizard and the effect was immediate. As the flames met, it was like an explosion of fire outwards as the direct momentum of Charizard’s was interrupted by the Flamethrower from the exact opposite direction. Flames flared outwards, and the small wind current generated by the vibrating of Flygon’s wings was enough to pull the flames up around him, hiding him from view as the flames appeared to engulf him in mid-air in a manner similar to pulling sand around his body and creating a sandstorm in the desert.
His tail and wings probably got burned from that, though… Alyssa thought, looking at the fireball that seemed to hang in the sky for a moment as the Flames made their way around the vibrating air current, appearing as though her pokemon were being torched by the inferno.
Her eyes were narrowed slightly, and the Veteran Trainer even raised a hand to shield her eyes slightly. Such a stark contrast from the night surrounding them was almost blinding if looked at directly. It was almost like pained relief when she looked away, at Lance as he spoke, his own eyes narrowed from the flames. She listened to him carefully, giving a smirk and nodding a bit, noticing that the light from the flames was beginning to die, indicating the fire had almost made complete circulation. Lance looked at his Charizard and she took that an opportune moment to respond.
”A proper name.” she responded. ”I’d heard rumors, but I didn’t know how true they were until now.” she informed him, glancing at the pools that remained from the boulders Flygon had easily summoned. ”I feel privileged to have witnessed such a powerful attack…one that’s the result of none less than the training of an incredible trainer. However, did you know that Flygon is neither my strongest nor most experienced battler? His nature makes him true to the title of the spirit of the desert which I endured to capture him.”
The last bits of the flames were being parted around the Flygon’s body because of the Dragon’s wingbeats.
” I think Flygon’s finally serious, your Charizard is a good opponent. The true nature of this desert spirit is a devilish trickster and clever deceiver above all else. The element of surprise can be his greatest weapon when used correctly.”
With that, the flames vanished in an outward pulse rather than simply vanishing, showing that they’d been forced through even more accelerated wingbeats and the lash of a tail, revealing Flygon. Alyssa’s prediction had been right – the tips of his wings were blackened from the flames, as was one of the plates on his tail, but otherwise he was fine, as compared to the illusion he’d managed to produce by meeting the Blast Burn with a Flamethrower and diverting the flames at the last second.
White rings were already forming around Flygon to accompany his red-glowing antenna. The boulders were summoned forth as easily and quickly as they had been before, plummeting towards the Charizard once again, to attempt another strike at the Flame pokemon with a second Rock Slide.
You never give up, do you Flygon… Alyssa mused slightly. Though you didn’t know Blast Burn drained the user of energy as greatly as Hyper Beam does and requires the user to recover before any major moves can be used, you still used your cunning to try and fool us then took advantage of Charizard's weakened state. If I didn’t know you better I would have believed it. She noted Flygon zipping away, a bit higher into the air in case another powerful Fire-attack got launched his way. The last one had been a close call, he needed more space to prepare now.
Alyssa watched the rocks hurtle towards the ground
”My question to you is this, Lance..” she began, drawing herself up straighter now that the flames had vanished and rocks – which she could barely see seeing as her eyes had not yet adjusted – hurtled to the ground and Charizard for a second attempt at a powerful strike. ”Do you understand the opponent you’re dealing with?!”

Blaze’s Blast Burn was as potent as ever, the sheer power overwhelming the weaker Flamethrower Flygon unleashed. Still Lance was surprised the smaller dragon possessed the move, especially one of that capacity and that it also utilized the attack to negate Blaze’s flames in an explosive manner, one which had engulfed the Flygon. It was a valiant effort from the Flygon but to stop the strongest Fire-type attack with a lesser one was never going to cut it.
Shifting his eyes back to Alyssa in anticipation for her next pokemon, a streak of confusion pulsed through him, though his stern face revealed nothing, as the female continued to watch the skies confidently. She couldn’t possibly assume her Flygon was still going to participate after receiving such an attack head on…really she couldn’t. He curiously listened to her words, wondering where such confidence came from.
Flygon is finally serious?...What does she mean with that?
His answer arrived almost immediately, the flames that still hung in the atmosphere being torn aside by the air pressure created by Flygon’s vibrating wings.
Shock, was the only word that came to mind. Though amazing soon followed behind it.
Lance couldn’t believe it. His eyes widening was the only thing that betrayed his calm face to his total surprise at Flygon’s survival. The pokemon managed to survive Blaze’s strongest attack, and with barely a scratch on him besides a few scorch marks. What kind of monster was he battling? He didn’t know whether he meant the trainer or her pokemon.
Blaze still glared up towards the Flygon, his determination and zeal not faltering one bit from the Flygon’s miraculous counter. Instead it seemed Flygon’s last attack only caused Blaze’s fierce competitive nature to reach an all new apex. Finally finding an opponent worth the effort, that was the thought running through the Flame pokemon’s mind at that moment. Looking at Blaze, Lance could make out the satisfied look on the charizard’s features. He was having fun. In fact, now that he thought about it, so was he. If this was just the taste of what was to come, Lance could hardly wait for the gauntlets Alysssa would unleash upon him.
Lance’s red eyes picked up movement in the sky above him, and upon further examination, could see the emerald dragon unleash another volley of falling boulders to rain down upon Blaze. Lance’s lips curled slightly into an amused grin. Repeating the previous attack on a Blaze while he was slightly weakened from the last attack was genius. Although Blaze was used to the after effects from using Blast Burn and had built up his constitution to lessen the fatigue building effects to a minimum over the years, he still couldn’t launch another fire attack so soon after launching Blast Burn, something it seemed Alyssa was aware of.
However, Blaze had more to offer than just fire attacks and just because he couldn’t perform one now, didn’t mean he was completely defenceless or immobile. No, Lance’s rigorous training over the years with regards to Blast Burn had made sure of that. Raising his large wings outwards, Blaze pushed down with all his might, exploding into the air with accelerating speed and amazing thrust. Opening his wings as he soared upwards toward the descending rocks, Blaze’s body increased in speed yet again, moving at incredible speeds upwards.
The reason for the speed boost?
The strong updraft caused by the sudden increase in temperature in the air caused by the Blast Burn. It was this sudden zephyr of hot air rising upwards that augmented Blaze’s already impressive speed. This was a useful trick Lance had utilized before. By allowing Blaze to launch the Blast Burn on the ground and heating the air around him, he could quickly counter-attack with a swift close-range attack should the Blast Burn miss its target. Using the new found speed, Blaze swiftly adjusted his wings, the sudden shift in aerodynamics allowing him to weave past the boulders coming down upon him. Gracefully Blaze slid past and in-between the rock slide, moving deftly among the boulders with some speed, narrowly getting grazed by the rocks as he squeezed in the gaps between them, some of them managing to land a hit on the dragon, if not at full impact. Ignoring the pain, he pushed forward, eventually breaking free from the rocky onslaught, as it continued towards the earth and smashing the ground where Blaze used to be.
Seems like you getting serious Blaze Lance mused to himself, watching the charizard propel himself towards Flygon like a torpedo in water, his claws slowly lighting up as he prepared another Dragon Claw attack on the Flygon before him.
Still looking up at the battle in the sky, Lance addressed the female trainer across from him. ”I guess we will just see which pokemon comes out the victor then. Though I must say, I’ve never seen Blaze this fired up before.” [/style] [style=font-family: arial; font-size: 9px; text-align: center; text-transform: uppercase;]TAGS, Alyssa NOTES, Sorry for the wait. Alyssa couldn’t help but feel a determination within her to surprise Lance – if that was even possible – with how she’d managed to trainer her Dragon-type pokemon. Some types she felt she had a certain affinity for, as she’d always found training Psychic types to be a unique experience. However, Flygon was the first Dragon-type pokemon she’d ever tried to train, and she’d found it to be a challenge. Consequently, she lacked confidence in the result of her tireless training. To gain approval from someone like Lance would secure her confidence in herself with this sort of thing. I hope...
Flygon’s nature as a trickster had definitely made things challenging, seeing as sometimes he had acted how he should, before peeling off in a different direction and not doing what she’d asked. That was so long ago... she realized, grinning a bit. King had been so much easier to train than Flygon, but perhaps that had been because his personality was so different from the Mystic Pokemon’s. Whatever the reason...all that matters now is that I managed to train both of them to the best of my ability. Or at least what I think is the best of my ability. She watched as her pokemon moved through the sky, looking at the Charizard that had remained below as the boulders fell downwards.
Alyssa glanced between the Charizard and her Flygon. That Blast Burn had been a close call. She had maintained a relatively unchanging expression through her flare of nervousness. Despite Flygon’s quick-thinking and actions to avoid being scorched by the incredible Blast Burn, it had most definitely been a close call. Alyssa knew that her pokemon hadn’t been sure if his Flamethrower would have been enough to stop it. In fact, the best she’d expected from it was the Blast Burn being forced to the sides and burning Flygon’s wings more than they had. His instincts must have kicked in...to think he made the flames behave how they did. It practically mirrors how wild Flygon pull sand around their bodies and creat sandstorms in the desert..
Now, though, Alyssa’s attention turned towards Blaze. The Charizard was now subject to the possibility of being hit from falling rocks. Surely Lance has trained his Charizard to at least be able to move after using Blast Burn? she wondered. When pokemon first learned it, Hydro Cannon, Frenzy Plant, or Hyper Beam, the effort from expending so much energy at once could practically knock them over. However, through constant training coupled with a healthy dose of determination would result in a pokemon being able to physically move in recovery, although still needing to re-charge enough energy to begin using other techniques. She smiled a bit when Blaze spread his wings and took off into the air.
A pleased roar came from Flygon, and the lithe green Dragon hovered above the water, watching as his opponent flew towards him. This was what he wanted. He wanted the fight to be in the air. On the ground, he lacked solid balance and he found it awkward to move around. But, in the air, he was confident in himself in addition to his acrobatics.
Alyssa could practically feel the joy and new spark of arrogance that came from her pokemon. She was happy that her pokemon was pleased at the change in the battleground, but she silently sent airs of caution to him. Be careful, Flygon... she thought, biting down on her lip. Don’t let your arrogance overpower your judgement. It could be your downfall, especially against this Charizard...and against Lance. You know what this battle means to me.
The Charizard soared towards Flygon at an unexpect speed, though Alyssa quickly deduced why it was faster than she had expected. The updraft of hot air...he used it to his advantage. she smiled a bit in approval. The way you’ve trained your pokemon is practically flawless, Lance, if not just that. I knew I would be happy with what I saw while battling you. You really are quite something. All Flygon needed to do now was wait until the updraft dissapated. He’d be outpacing the Charizard – hopefully – soon enough.
Raising her voice to call out to Flygon, her words automatically caught the attention of her pokemon, seeing as his head turned towards her, using what time he had to pay attention, seeing as Blaze had broken free from the tangle of rocks with glowing claws to strike out with a rather familiar technique.
”You know what to do, Flygon! Meet his attack with your own! Dragon Claw!”
Letting out a saitsfied call to his trainer, Flygon gave a last glance to the fast-approaching Charizard before ascending vertically into the air like a rocket. The three claws on both of his hands glowed as he charged up the same attack about to be used against him for his own use. Without warning, he turned on a dime, flipping over in a half-somersault as though he’d rebounded off an invisble barrier. He zipped towards the Charizard from above, both sets of claws outstretched. He wasn’t necessarily trying to completely blindside him, but instead something different.
If he landed on the Charizard’s shoulders or back, they were low enough that he could quite possibly force both himself and the Charizard into the water below.
That wasn’t his aim, though.
Instead, he was hoping the Charizard would turn upwards, to meet him. When that happened, Flygon planned to lock claws with the oppoenent, bringing both of them down in a downward spiral towards the water. What Flygon wanted was more than just a trial of power and speed. He wanted a trial of wits. Whichever one of them let go first would risk being seen as a coward, and Flygon had no intentions of being seen as such, nor did he plan on letting go even if the Charizard tried to.
Alyssa watched her pokemon with narrowed eyes, trying to mask her confusion. Even she didn’t know exactly what her pokemon was planning. She’d only instructed him to meet the Dragon Claw with his own, likely sending sparks flying (as the saying went) when they collided. His vertical acceleration had confused her. However, she pushed the expression away and glanced at the red-haired man across from her.
”The least I can say to that is I’m glad Flygon proves to be such entertaining competition for Blaze. Flygon’s enjoying himself too...he’s quite happy the match has taken wing.”
