Flashback, 11 years ago Age, 15 years
Alyssa sat on a bench in the market square – or rather, what was probably closer to a rectangle – of Slateport City. The teenager was perched on the wooden bench next to a sturdy green Vibrava. The Dragon-type pokemon was fidgeting all the while next to its trainer, twitching its head back and forth, and keeping its body moving up and down as it bent and straightened its legs out. Occasionally flapping its wings, the pokemon moved its head impatiently from side to side. ”Vi…vibrava-va!” The Vibration pokemon next to her was complaining about being still for such a long while. Alyssa looked at her pokemon and laughed, patting it on the back between its wings, stilling it instantly. He collapsed gently to the bench, his eyes half-closed with what could be interpreted as relief of sorts.
”You like that, dontcha?” she asked the small dragon. ”Vi…vi…vi…” he said, almost sleepily. Flicking his head upwards, the antenna between his eyes brushed the underside of his trainers wrist, tickling her slightly. She giggled a bit and pulled her hand back, turning to look at the marketplace closing up. The sun was beginning to set in the sky, painting it a brilliant array of reds and orange against the startlingly white clouds. Glancing upwards slightly, Alyssa noticed her white bangs falling in her eyes. …Egh. That won’t do… she thought with a half-frown. Pulling her red beanie off, she let her white ponytail fall out for the first time that day, revealed for the public eye.
Not for long…
Biting down on the rim of her beanie, the trainer made quick work of combing her fingers through her hair to make it neater and re-tying it in a high ponytail. She leaned forward to catch it within the hat before pulling the red-and-white item down to just about the level of her eyebrows, tucking her bangs beneath it so none of her hair was visible. That’s better… she thought, picking her head up and leaning back. Her hair had turned completely white within three years, from the age of ten to thirteen. Two years had passed since it was bleached white, but she hadn’t grown any fonder of it, and had taken to hiding it beneath her hat – no exceptions.
She glanced at her Vibrava again before looking at the sunset and speaking.
”Hey, Vibrava..”
”Vi?”
”You know what tomorrow is, right?”
”Vi…vi-vibrava?”
She smiled slightly, having close to no idea what he had actually said. ”No, that’s not it…”
”Brava, brava!?”
The trainer laughed slightly. ”Tomorrow we head for Johto! Are you excited for it?” she looked down at her pokemon, who had begun hovering excitedly as he sensed the excitement in his trainer.
”Vi! Vi! Vi! Vi!”
She laughed some before extending her arm to rest against the back of the bench, palm up. The Vibration pokemon flew up and landed lightly on her arm, looking at his trainer. ”I know I am…” she said, smiling and looking at him. ”That’s our next goal – all the gym badges from Johto! We’ve managed to clear Hoenn, Kanto, and the Orange Achipelago…but now we head for a new region. It’s like a new adventure!”
Her pokemon cheered, causing her to giggle. Good to see him excited… Alyssa thought, smiling, before looking over at the Contest Hall, where she’d noticed a number of people gathering earlier. She assumed there was some contest or something. Truthfully it had made her curious, and she was losing her ability to push the curiosity away any longer.
I don't want to get caught in that storm...time to move. she thought.
Standing up, she kept her arm extended to hold Vibrava. Admittedly it was more difficult than she’d recalled, but she managed to keep her arm strong, despite the fact the pokemon weighed around thirty pounds. As though sensing his trainer’s discomfort, Vibrava took off lightly from her arm, hovering behind her as she made her way quickly across the ground, more to the eastern side of Slateport City.
A few moments of walking, the voices of the contest fans faded more to background noise than anything, and she felt the burn of her curiosity fade out like a doused fire. She sighed a little and looked down, rubbing the back of her neck. Now she was at a loss for what she could do. She didn't want to be driven to the contest hall, that was for sure. However, she didnt want to just stand there like some weirdo in the middle of the stone street. Looking up, she let her cerulean eyes scan the area around her before something - or rather, someone - caught her attention. The flicker of a familiar memory ignited in her mind, and it took her a moment to recall precisely why the figure was familiar.
It was then that her jaw dropped slightly. Was that…?
No way…
Alyssa leaned forward some to try to get a better view of the young man with his back to her. There was no way she could mistake the hair and what she could see of his clothes.
Wallace!
She had met him so many years ago, and seen him only a few times between then and now. Their last meeting...she knew had gone less than well, but years later, that didn't stop her from taking interest in the young man that had been her friend the many times she went with her father to Sootopolis as a young girl while he did business. She came up behind him silently, before placing her hands on the back of the bench behind him, Vibrava hovering close to silently behind her right shoulder.
"How long has it been, Wallace?" she asked quietly, not meaning to startle the blue-haired young man with a small smile. "Five years now?"
Although there was the possibility for her to receive a cold shoulder for an unexplained reason again, she knew she wouldn't know if this time would be the same as last if she didn't try.

[style=float: left; padding: 8px;][/style] [style=font=family: tahoma; font-size: 11px; text-align: justify;]The Contest was finally about to start. This was the third time he was going to watch in one and Wallace insisted to himself he was here because he was bored. Also because there could be some good moves he could pick up for actual Pokemon battling. Pokemon Contests was like where people come up with innovative moves to make their Pokemon fancy. It was all about impressing the crowd. Frankly, the whole thing about Contests was pretty obnoxious to Wallace so he was fired up to make fun of it after this was over.
The voice behind him didn't really do much to surprise him. He woke up from his musings and turned his head around to Alyssa. He had a vague feeling of knowing the voice but recognition didn't hit him as fast as his turquoise or blue idk hair did for Alyssa. He fell quiet, studying the girl's features for half a minute. He didn't return her smile or even give a courteous hi. He wasn't confused, inquisitive, or in the least interested, and he made it a point not to even look happy to see her. Whoever she was.
"Oh," was all he said when he finally remembered. Alyssa, that girl when he was a kid. Her comment made him frown. Wasn't that way back farther? Like seven years ago? He didn't recall meeting her four to five years ago. The memory easily slipped past his head and he wasn't planning on asking Alyssa to brief him of their old times together. He was going to stay neutral and hope to end the conversation with her already. Maybe he could excuse himself and move to another seat; he didn't like the idea of having to entertain her while a Contest was going on...not that Wallace was going to pay attention to it.
"I'm good," he answered and was about to turn back around when he spotted Alyssa's Vibrava. Wallace wasn't able to hide his reaction and he didn't try to. "Eugh!" he said, moving away from the Pokemon. "Is that a Vibrava?" He stared at its beady green eyes, disgusted. He knew what the thing was. It was native in Hoenn so of course he did. It was an ugly, four-legged thing that had bug-like wings. He didn't find them really scary but he was going to make a run for it if that thing flew toward him and touched him. "Eugh!" he said again, grimacing. "Alyssa, get that thing back in its Pokeball! Corphish shit, you're a girl and that's just disgusting."
((Just a heads up. I'm kind of just chilling with Wallace. I can't rush any posts with him because I do my best to make each of them perfect. I'll only reply if I feel like it lol. Wallace = anti-stress so keep yourself occupied XD)) [/style]

The teenager was met with silence for the first minute or so after she addressed Wallace. Truthfully, she wasn’t exactly ‘surprised’ at the lack of reaction or immediate recognition. After more than a year of not seeing a person, their memory began to fade unless they were significant in some way. Four to five years after a less-than memorable confrontation was bound to leave some blank space as far as her identity went. ...It has only been five...er...four years, right? she wondered silently, shifting through her memories at rapid speed. They’d first met each other when they were children, and continued meeting whenever she went to Sootopolis with her father until they were nine...that much she was positive of. Father retired from the business realm of things then...so I didn’t see Wallace for that next year.... Aside from dominant memories of the year after that included starting her pokemon journey with Daybreak and Swampert, or gym battles, the age of ten was a whirlwind blur for her, although she felt sure their last encounter had been in that time.
I could be wrong -- her thoughts were cut off when Wallace finally spoke.
”Oh. I’m good.” He seemed to hold a similar disposition as to when they last met, though it was a bit milder than their last meeting. I wonder what caused that... she asked herself once again, as she had after being brushed off in a rather cold manner. This time, though, she was going to take her chances with getting the friendship they had as young children back. She believed that it still existed (albeit deep down) within them both, and could be brought to the surface again. Don’t know until I try...
”Eugh!” She jumped, blinking in surprise at him. She’d not been expecting a sudden outburst from him. ”Is that a Vibrava?” Alyssa looked between the turquoise sounds more fabulous than blue haired boy and her tiny Dragon, who had been looking around but now snapped its head to look at Wallace, his lensed green eyes staring intently at her friend. ”Eugh!” she blinked and looked back at him. Have something against Dragons, Wallace....? she asked silently, having a feeling that Drake of the Elite Four would disapprove greatly.
”Alyssa, get that thing back in it’s Pokeball! Corpish shit, you’re a girl and that’s disgusting.” Alyssa showed no outward reaction to his choice of language or the insult he paid to her pokemon’s appearance. Not that there was any need to for the latter, seeing as Vibrava let out an offended cry and landed on the bench beside Alyssa’s far arm from Wallace, rustling his wings angrily. The sound produced from the wings was enough to grant his trainer an instant headache. Vibrava were known to use the ultrasonic vibrations caused from their wings to make prey faint, though it did no more than cause a headache in humans.
Alyssa put her hand in front of Vibrava’s face, stopping the antics immediately although the pounding in her head persisted. ”I don’t think he...” she clarified her pokemon’s gender. ”...appreciated that very much. He’s also a ‘Vibration Pokemon’ and not ‘Corpish Shit’. But if his presence bothers you that much...” she clicked the Timer Ball off her belt and expanded it in her hand. Vibrava looked up at her and nodded, his expression cross from Wallaces comment. Vanishing as a stream of red energy, Alyssa placed Vibrava back onto her belt before looking at Wallace.
”...I can accommodate that.” She paused for a moment before asking sharply, ”And what the hell does my being a girl have to do with anything?! He’s not a bug for Arceus’ sake. He’s Dragon, mind you,and I don’t see what’s so disgusting about a Dragon.” Though her tone was sharp, it wasn’t angry. She was simply defending herself and her pokemon from the offense had paid towards them both. Although she would let it go easier, she knew Vibrava would hold a grudge.
Sighing, Alyssa closed her eyes and rubbed the back of her head, the still-brown tips of her hair sticking out slightly beneath the beanie before she smoke in a more normal, calmer manner. ”But....anyway...good to hear you’re doing fine...are you in town for the Contest?” she asked, curious, seeing as there was a good chance anybody in Slateport at the moment were there for that very reason. Although she’d come for the marketplace, she had to admit the curiosity was overwhelming her still despite the fact she’d just moved away from it. She’d never attended a contest of any sort.

[style=float: left; padding: 8px;][/style] [style=font=family: tahoma; font-size: 11px; text-align: justify;]"When it has two bulging eyes, four freaking legs, and a pair of headache-inducing buzzing wings? That has to be related to some Bug Pokemon Yanma," Wallace said, shooting the Vibrava's Pokeball a cold look. He didn't care if it was Dragon or a strong Pokemon. Wallace wouldn't be able to stand training a Pokemon like that. Hand it to the tomboy for being able to do it. Wallace turned around and shook his head. Honestly.
"Isn't that obvious?" he said, vaguely listening to the emcee introduce the judges as the preliminary judging started. Though he wanted to just end the conversation, Wallace was a little curious why Alyssa was here herself. Was she a Pokemon Coordinator? It was an obvious choice for girls. Wallace thought he should clarify that in case Alyssa gets ideas. "I'm not participating of course. Just watching."
When the judges were introduced, the audience clapped but Wallace's arms remained folded across his chest. "Are you here because of your dad?" he asked without turning around. He knew that Alyssa was going around the world because of her father's business trips. It was how they met in Sootopolis years back when one bored Alyssa decided to hang around with Wallace.
Wallace watched the first Coordinator send out her Pokemon for the appeal round. Out of the Pokeball came out a waving Chinchou but then the Chinchou began to change form and turned to a Makuhita drumming his stomach. The Makuhita ran and leaped, turning to a gliding Swellow. The audience gasped for the surprise and the Coordinator revealed her Pokemon was a Ditto.
A naked Ditto. Wallace frowned. He didn't really mean naked in the literal sense but the Ditto looked absolutely naked, bland. It was a pink blob and Wallace wouldn't be able to tell if it were tap-dancing or spinning a hula hoop. They better not give that thing any scores higher than five.
((Going by game-version for the Contest. Also, feel free to advance the Contest as you go along.)) [/style]

”When it has two bulging eyes, four freaking legs –“ Alyssa’s mental commentary cut Wallace off there, though he still continued. Actually, bug pokemon tend to have at least six legs... she thought, feeling it was best not to say it out loud, but instead mildly amuse herself with her silent response to his words. As far as the headache-inducing, buzzing wings go, that’s just a Vibrava...bug pokemon tend to rely on other means to cripple prey rather than rapid wingbeats... She rolled her eyes a bit when he turned around, though she listened to him speak. So, he was in town for the Contest? Does he compete at all...? she wondered briefly before he answered that as though he’d read her mind. ...well...just because he’s not partaking in this one doesn’t mean he’s not a Coordinator...
She shrugged the thought off as the voice of the emcee rang through the upper quad of Slateport. Even people in the marketplace seemed to be looking up to pay attention to the contest. I guess it’s a bigger deal than I gave it credit for... she thought, glancing at the center of Slateport’s attention. The judges were given quick introductions and the teenager couldn’t help but look in the direction of the contest, her curiosity getting the better of her. ”Are you here because of your dad?”
The question caught her a bit by surprise and she hesitated before answering, taking the momentary silence to watch what was going on in the contest ring. The first Coordinator released a Chinchou and – Wait... the pokemon glowed faintly, and began taking form. Would a pokemon really evolve on the spot? Unlikely for the Chinchou, seeing as it’s evolutionary form of Lanturn was an Ocean-dwelling fish-shaped pokemon, that wouldn’t fare well on land too well. It took the form of a Makuhita. Oh...Ditto...interesting. One of the more elusive pokemon from Kanto. she thought, silently flipping through the index of pokemon her brain had been compiling since she first started her pokemon journey.
Although she found Dittos somewhat cute, she found them somewhat odd as well. Just their shape and general way of movement was different to her. Alyssa opened her mouth and began speaking. ”No...my father retired from the business realm of things a few years ago. I’m back in Hoenn only briefly. I needed to come to Slateport to stock up on some things before leaving for Johto...” she told him, craning her neck to try and see what the second Coordinator, a young man, had released. An Eevee appeared from a flash of light, and skipped around the arena, wagging its fluffy tail and prancing for the audience, the bow tucked against one of its ears flopping slighty as it’s head bobbed.
”Awwh...” Alyssa said quietly, smiling as she thought of the Eevees running around her parent’s house, seeing as a clutch of eggs had only recently just hatched. ”An Eevee...isn’t it cute...” she stated asked idk, smilng some. The following Coordinator released a Skitty. Alyssa turned her gaze back to Wallace as the Skitty made it’s round of trying to impress the crowd. ”...do you know how Contests work? I’ve...never seen one..” she admitted, glancing back to attempt to see the fourth pokemon being released.

[style=float: left; padding: 8px;][/style] [style=font=family: tahoma; font-size: 11px; text-align: justify;] Adorable, yes. Good, no way. He didn't find the Eevee very impressive either. It was something to woo old ladies and nannies, not professionals judging for a Hyper Rank Pokemon Contest. The Skitty didn't do a better job either.
"Just how did they get here?" he thought, scowling. He was inclined to believe Contests didn't have a very good set of judges at bay for letting these people get this far. The level of competition was obviously nothing compared to the intensity of Pokemon training.
"No," he answered, not taking his eyes away from the stage. His eyes shifted slightly from the stage and to the side, catching a glimpse of Alyssa before looking up front again. He wanted to lie but Wallace had actually been pouring some effort to learn about Contests. He had this need to know what others knew. He wasn't interested in bragging like a know-it-all or even hearing people call him smart; however, he didn't like anyone to think he was clueless.
"I just know the Pokemon are judged by aesthetic appearance and performance. This is a Hyper Rank Contest, the third highest level of the competition. Why are you here?" he pointed out. He realized he was asking the same question he did but he was pertaining to her presence in the Contest Hall. If she didn't know what a Contest was, why did she even come here?[/style]

Alyssa watched as the fourth pokemon – an Aron – had been released and made its initial ‘crowd-grabbing’ entrance. Alyssa hadn’t understood what made some of the people closest to the contest ring swoon. The only pokemon up there that had gotten any sort of ‘great’ reaction from her was the Eevee, and that was simply because she had a soft spot for Eevees and their evolutionary family. The Emcee announced that they would be moving along to a series of appeals. Appeals...like moves? Alyssa wondered, as she glanced at Wallace. His gaze was moderately inscrutable to the teenage girl, but she didn’t let it bother her. Instead, she turned her observing gaze back to the contest ring, watching with mild interest and the welcome feeling that her curiosity was, at long last, being satisfied.
”No.”
So, he didn’t know how contests worked either? The only thing she really knew about contests was that there were four ranks, and that trainers made their pokemon more suited for an upcoming series of appeals by feeding them pokeblocks. Alyssa had taken an interest in the making of pokeblocks because it involved the use of berries. She liked making pokemon food and treats from berries she collected, so the knowledge of pokeblock making helped her out some. They were basically like candy (almost) for pokemon, and when she’d first made one, Vibrava seemed to have enjoyed it.
I wont make them religiously like Coordinators, though...
She turned to look at Wallace when he continued speaking, surprising her slightly. So, contests are judged on aesthetic appearance and performance... She made a small, dissatisfied sound that vaguely resembled a muffled ‘hmph’. To her, it almost sounded like coordinators would go to such lengths as even dressing their pokemon up in clothes like a child would a doll. ...I can’t imagine too many pokemon would like that, would they? Alyssa wondered. Then again...if their heart is with their trainer’s, it probably wouldn’t mind...
”Why are you here?”
Oh, right.
Placing her right hand lightly on the back of her neck, Alyssa gave a quiet, sheepish chuckle. ”Well, uh..” she began, turning to look at Wallace. ”I, er, more or less let my curiosity get the best of me. I’ve been curious about contests for years and...” she shrugged, ”I finally caved.”

[style=float: left; padding: 8px;][/style] [style=font=family: tahoma; font-size: 11px; text-align: justify;] He arched an eyebrow at her. Not at her answer but the earlier sound she made. Wallace didn't know what to make out of that though something about it struck him the wrong way.
It seemed he and Alyssa ended up here with more or less the same reason. They were curious, and they caved in. Yes, Wallace was curious as he had said to himself so many times. He wouldn't be found in this fancy, ribbon-decorated place because he was interested in clothes and seeing Pokemon dance in them. That was stupid. Even Alyssa thought-
Alyssa had never seen a Contest before?
It just struck Wallace. Her answers came together and he realized that Alyssa - a girl - wasn't a Pokemon Coordinator. Not only that but she had only been curious like Wallace as to what a Contest was but never really interested in it. She "caved in" meaning, she was too embarrassed too to see one herself. It took her years to do that. A girl, actually not rushing in at the sight of a Contest Hall. At least that was how Wallace was processing it.
He stood up abruptly and marched to leave the stands and exit. He wasn't going to stay here any longer. If a girl didn't think a Contest was even something to bother with, he, a boy, wasn't going to be anywhere near a Contest Hall anymore without a ten-meter pole between them. Curious or not, this obviously had been a very bad idea.

Wallace’s silence allowed Alyssa’s attention to drift outside of their conversation and focus on the series of appeals going on before the audience. They seemed to enjoy certain moves shown off by the pokemon, and not so much others. Bigger moves that were loud or flashy startled other pokemon, some didn’t. Why was that? Alyssa’s eyes narrowed in thought and she bit her lip. There was so much to contests she didn’t understand, but she felt something inside her that wanted to. Probably my curiosity again... she thought, sighing silently. If there was something she didn’t know or understand she’d remain curious about it until she learned. Contests were a perfect example of this.
But I still haven’t learned much...
A swift brush by her side followed by a bit of stomping didn’t immediately register as Wallace leaving, until Alyssa turned to ask if he had a guess as to why some moves spurred different reactions than others that she noticed. Her cerulean eyes looked at the empty place where her friend sat as though there were some flashing lights where he once was, and looking up she saw he was already headed for the exit.
”Uh...Wallace?”
She didn’t think for a moment before tightening her bag over her shoulders and rushing after him, slipping once on the steps and bumping into other contest-watching patrons with a startled squeak before uttering a rushed, embarassed apology. ”Wallace!” she called again. He was quick; he’d already managed to get a good distance away from the stands and was practically all the way through the lobby already. Probably because it took her so long to register that he’d gone.
She ran through the lobby after him, dodging around other people as she tried to get to her friend, before finally she pushed through the doors moments after him. Reaching a hand out in an attempt to grab his arm, she spoke again, a bit breathlessly ”Wallace! What’s wrong?”

[style=float: left; padding: 8px;][/style] [style=font=family: tahoma; font-size: 11px; text-align: justify;] He was about to leave this flying ducklett place when a hand stopped him. He turned around and saw Alyssa being too nosy for her own good.
"Quit following me!" he snarled at her. Why did she even follow him? "Go back watching that garbage you're interested in. Maybe you could put up your Vibrava with some thick make-up to cover up its ugliness and make people laugh instead."
He knew that was a very cruel blow but Wallace's temper had suddenly flared and Alyssa was the unlucky person closest to lash out. It felt good to insult her in the face and if she said anything back, Wallace would be more than glad to snap back at her.
But before it could escalate, the glass double doors before them slid open. Wallace turned his head around, head fuzzy as his glare landed on the man (accompanied with a group of women) who entered the Contest Hall. As soon as he did, his mind had gone blank.
Corphish shit. It's him.

[style=font-size:11px; font-family:georgia] Contests were always the best excuse to leaving Sootopolis. Even with all the challenges, they weren't enough to compare to them. So it wasn't surprising to see that Juan had left home to visit one.
... that wasn't the only upside to traveling. With the added fame of being a coordinating gym leader, it was easy to find himself covered with women. It was routine - a very enjoyable one, in fact. Ah, the adulation of beautiful ladies. He would never get enough of it.
"Now, have you lovely ladies seen a contest before?" Most answered that they had, however one of the women shook their head. A light blush colored her cheeks as she did so. How amusing, he'd gained a fan without knowing of his reputation. "You haven't?" She looked away, and Juan took her personally by the hand. The lady looked at him, clearly stunned. "Then you must come." He could hear the squeals around him. "We must all go!" That was why he had traveled to Slateport in the first place.
It seemed that he caught onto something interesting as they entered the Contest Hall. The women gradually hushed as they noticed Juan had stopped speaking. The smirk never left his lips as he glanced in Wallace's direction. He hadn't seen him in a long time. So he was still alive and managed to make it on his own. Juan never doubted he did, but he had expected him back years ago. They were truly alike in many ways. "How unruly." One of the women said, breaking the silence. Juan hummed in agreement but said nothing. Their argument, whatever he and the girl beside him had been arguing about, was loud and an eye sore.
"Shall we?" He tugged them along and they followed quickly. Oh, he will want to know about whatever it was that the two were arguing about, but now was hardly the time. As if that small scene never happened, the lovely ladies went back to their giggling and idle chatter.

What was with him?!
At his words, Alyssa’s lip curled in defiance and both of her hands tensed, her free hand curling into a fist that she very much wanted to connect with Wallace’s jaw, while the one that had managed to catch his arm tightened like a vice, her fingers gripping his arm in a relentless manner. Although the insult to her pokemon was nothing near as severe as it could have been, it still pissed her off.
Retort ready in her mouth and on the tip of her tongue, the teenager was just about ready to snap back at Wallace for his words when the glass doors slid open and revealed a familiar face. The aggression that had boiled within her blood flooded instantly as she recognized the man that had entered, with a group of young women clinging to him as though he were life itself. She blinked in surprise. What was he doing here?
…Oh yeah. He coordinates.
”…J-Juan..” she murmured quietly, half to herself, before one of the women commented on she and Wallace’s behavior. She flushed hotly, red color spreading across her pale cheeks though it didn’t register to let go of Wallace. Juan left their presence and the women soon resumed what Alyssa assumed they’d been doing prior to seeing the two arguing teenagers.
She sighed silently, hoping to control her temper better now that Juan’s appearance had practically doused the entire initial flare-up. Instead, she spoke quietly and more calmly, though her temper remained coiled like a Seviper ready to strike.
”Don’t call it garbage…” she told him. ”You may not be interested in it, but that’s somebody else’s passion - you shouldn’t insult it.” she clenched her jaw and swallowed. ”I got the guts to go in there on the hope that I’d see somebody I knew or somebody that would be willing to explain to me, ignorant as I would seem, how the hell Contests work so I wouldn’t feel so confused or lost…”
Swallowing, she stayed looking at Wallace; her eyes were hard as she looked at him steadily, forcing back the urge to still punch him across the face for the insult to her pokemon.

[style=float: left; padding: 8px;][/style] [style=font=family: tahoma; font-size: 11px; text-align: justify;] His arrival completely obliterated Alyssa's presence for Wallace that her indignation completely eluded him. At that moment, he tensed up and glared at the stare sent to his direction. He dared him to say something, to do something - any of those bullshit he always does. Wallace knew he was in trouble when he decided to run away from home a few months ago. He had taken his clothes, took money from him, and brought his Pokemon along and left the house. Ever since then, he had been on guard for a search party to drag him back in Sootopolis since that whisker-mustached man would be too busy drinking a fucking tea to do it himself.
But by some fate, he himself found Wallace. What was he going to do to him? Drag him back? He wouldn't dare, not in front of all these people and those clingy women attached to him like some Remoraid. Tell him to stay here until he could have the officers do it instead? Wallace readied his Pokeball. He was damn going to defend himself even though he knew he hadn't made much progress Pokemon-wise. In fact, it seemed he had gotten worse...
Juan did nothing. He strode off like he had seen nothing.
Wallace's stare went blank again. He didn't hear Alyssa talk, didn't hear the giggles, didn't hear the excited chatter from the crowd at the sight of the prominent Pokemon Coordinator. Wallace was shocked. He was dumbfounded.
A fourteen-year-old boy ran away from home and had been missing for months. His fourteen-year-old boy had ran away from home and had been missing for months - and he does absolutely NOTHING?
While Alyssa had the maturity to control herself, Wallace did not.
Wallace grabbed a football-size Pokeball prop from the decors and threw it at the back of Juan's head for the Pokeball to explode in glitter and confetti.
"You good-for-nothing grown man wearing capri shorts!" Wallace shouted at the top of his lungs. He stormed off the exit and shoved innocent bystanders aside.
He was so pissed off that Wallace was glad there was no Whiscash around he might have accidentally killed in his anger. Why did his day have to be such an ass? He pushed people aside with much more force than necessary. He got glares but he ddin't care. Wallace shoved another one right in front of him but this person didn't budge.
"Yeah?" came a deep, octave voice.
Wallace looked up. Really, really, up. A man with his arms crossed and four feet taller than him looked down on him behind his shades. Wallace glared defiantly. He knew he was in trouble but he wasn't going to let himself be intimidated.
"Get out of my way," he growled.
"Your way? You're the one coming to ours."
"You got a problem with that?" Wallace retorted.
The man's lips curled thinly. "I do."
Wallace smirked, shifting his weight on his right foot and raising his left hand on his hip. "And what are you going to do about it? Beat me up? I'd like to see you do that to a kid without getting sentenced to jail."
"Oh, but I can," the man said, amused.
Wallace's eyes snapped. He wasn't serious -
"- With a Pokemon battle." The man bounced a Pokeball on his hand. "You do have one, right? You just came out of the Contest Hall."
"I do, but that's a pretty stupid assumption. I'm not one of those frilly, Coordinators."
"Really? Could have fooled me. What, still not taking out your Pokemon?" he asked, starring at Wallace's defiant glare. "Waiting for me to take out mine first? All right."
The man threw his Pokeball and let out an Electrike. "Happy? Let's see what you've got."
Wallace gritted his teeth. He wasn't going to run away. He would ask for a beating up than get humiliated.
"Go, Sky!" Wallace took out his Wingull.
Sky appeared in a flash of light in the air. The Electrike arched an eyebrow at the Wingull.
"Is that your only Pokemon?" the man asked.
"No."
He laughed. "Are the rest Magikarp?"
Wallace's fists curled tightly. "Shut up and fight."
He was going to show them - and him. He was going to win this battle without having to rely with type advantages. He was going to make this battle something they would never forget.

Wallace ripped away from her grip almost before she could register it, pulling her forward in a rather ungainly stumble. Something had bothered him since Juan’s arrival. That was when a small ‘blip’ in the pattern of his actions had occurred. Something had stopped him, but then started up again with a reknewed vigor that seemed to make her turquoise-haired friend even more agitated than before. What did Juan have to do with it? Wallace pulled out a pokeball and Alyssa skidded to a halt and she looked back at her friends, a loss for words as to what to say or do. She’d been ready for a verbal retort but it never came, now, instead, she was almost concerned despite the temper that had flared.
She only just managed to duck out of the way when Wallace threw a contest hall prop past her. Although it hadn’t been near her, it was close enough to cause her to flinch. The next yell made her jump and clap a hand over her ear. What the hell? She opened her eyes in time to see Wallace storming to the exit, rudely shoving innocent Contest-goers aside. ”Wallace...” she murmured, trying to contemplate what to do now. Her gut was telling her to leave him be, but she didn’t want to. She was actually concerned about him.
Sighing, she looked down, but looked up again when the sound of doors opening and closing did not meet her ears. She swallowed, this wasn’t good. Wallace...don’t do anything stupid... she thought.
Naturally, though, that hope was vanquished when a pokemon appeared from the man Wallace most likely bumped into – or, given his behavior, tried to shove as well. An Electrike on the ground was soon met with Wallace’s own Wingull. ”Er...Wallace, are you serious?” she murmured under her breath, deciding to walk forward quickly and stand near her friend, in case this battle turned out the way Alyssa feared it would. It took practically every fiber of her will not to whip off a pokeball of her own and fight as well.
That, however, did not seem like a good idea at the moment.
”Wallace...” Alyssa began quietly. ”Please tell me you know what you’re doing...?”

[style=float: left; padding: 8px;][/style] [style=font=family: arial; font-size: 11px; text-align: justify;] "'fraid not, girly," the man said to Alyssa. "Maybe you should teach him Water and Flying Pokemon are weak against Electric. And Jin here's an Electrike, an electric Pokem-"
"I know that!" Wallace interrupted angrily. "And I know what I'm doing! Back off, Alyssa!"
If there was one thing Wallace didn't like was being treated like an idiot and he always get treated like one. There was perfectly nothing wrong in what he was doing in Wallace's opinion. All of them were just too scared to discover things themselves. Wallace was willing to put himself through challenges if it meant being able to learn things from experience, not just by the words of others. He believed the battle was always a room of trying out new things, for creativity.
Too bad he'd never actually won one using his methods.
"Go, Sky!" Wallace yelled.
The man shrugged. "If you say so. Jin, end this joke with a Spark."
The Electrike charged at the Wingull with electricity but Sky gracefully turned to one sided and flew away safely.
Wallace smirked. "Can't you tell birds have wings?"
"I was hoping to be lenient for your poor Pokemon. You can't dodge this next one coming and no, I'm not bluffing -"
Wallace readied himself. He knew he wasn't bluffing. Wallace knew the move he was talking about was Shock Wave. He had been anticipating it. He wasn't afraid.
"- Jin, show him what a Shock Wave is!"
Wallace knew what to do. "Sky, now! Use Water Pulse!"
Sky opened his bill and attempted to blast water out but before it could happen, the Shock Wave struck him on the back and fried his insides. Singed, the Wingull lost consciousness and drifted limply to the ground. Wallace ran and caught Sky on his arms.
"Sky!" Wallace said anxiously, touching his Pokemon's head tenderly.
The Electrike was returned back to its Pokeball. "See? Good thing is the Pokemon Center's just a step away. I'll leave you be to do the responsible thing, okay?" The man pointedly look at Alyssa. "You watch your boyfriend there. I don't like picking on kids but they need to be taught a lesson from time to time."
Though the man was gone, it didn't make Wallace better. He could feel the crowd they attracted watch him with criticizing eyes. Wallace glared at them, insults at the tip of his tongue. They wouldn't know. They had no right to say anything. If Sky had been fast enough, he would have managed to avoid a sure-move hit like Shock Wave.
Wallace returned Sky back to his Pokeball and stomped toward the Pokemon Center, leaving Alyssa behind again.
((Lol yeah just a cut scene.)) [/style]
