a (wo)man's business
It must have been a stroke of luck. No, not luck. It must have been a sign - and a bad one at that. No rain pouring down on Route 119? What nonsense was that? It was practically an area for torrential downpours year-round, winter being no exception. It just sucked a whole lot more when it rained because it was damn cold. Why is it not raining? Alyssa asked herself silent as she raised a hand to adjust the maroon ascot around her neck from blowing in the wind as she flew north towards Fortree City upon Salamence’s back. Hoenn was not known for its snow – not by a long shot. Being a primarily tropical climate, snow was something of a rarity. Although, once in a while there was a blip in the consistency of weather patterns and the region saw snow.
”Take it easy, Salamence...” she murmured to her pokemon who seemed to quicken his pace for no reason. ”...we’re not racing anywhere; you don’t have to fly so fast.” The dragon growled in response and reluctantly slowed his pace. He adored flying, but Alyssa didn’t want him to tire out because of something pointless like racing through the skies...at least when it wasn’t needed. She moved her hand against his long neck in a moment of affection before tightening her grip as they began descending towards the treetop city of Northern Hoenn.
The blue Dragon pokemon landed with a thud on the ground, turning heads of the few peoplethat were outside in their direction. ”Thank you...” Alyssa murmured to her pokemon, pulling out a ruby-colored Cherish Ball for him to vanish within before it was returned to her belt. She wasted no time in climbing the steep ladder-steps to get to the treetops, where the ‘real’ Fortree was. Upon arriving at the top, she adjusted the sweatervest she wore and straightened the leather armbands around her upper arms. The disguise was convincing enough. Although she had absolutely no reason to be in disguise in Hoenn, her home region...not to mention the one she led, of all places, she took a precautionary measure. She was supposed to be meeting someone that she hoped she’d be able to look to in the future for information if this first meeting went well.
Making her way to an obvious location for a meeting – Fortree’s Bar – she paid no mind to the questioning looks cast in her direction as she sat at the bar itself, her feet dangling slightly above the ground thanks to the height of the chairs. The bartender was glaring at her and she rolled her eyes behind the glasses perched on her nose. ”Water, please...” she said quietly, nodding to him as if urging the man to get back to work. So long as she didn’t try to order an alcoholic beverage like this, she would be fine and not thrown out.

He innocently glanced back at the underground tabloid spread in front of him, taking a sip from his half-empty tankard as his eyes read back to the side-splitting rumors of the Lux President and his secretary's active sex life. His amused chuckles rolled out of his throat indistinctly to join and create the chatty, bar atmosphere that was none too gloomy but none too cheerful either. All the while, he continued to observe his client with his peripheral vision.
The agreed time was not in another couple of minutes. Though some might make use of this punctuality to get the business over early, Lios had taken a comfortable seat in the bar earlier to not only relax but to observe. This wasn't just any other client. He took the need to be extra cautious on this one. His client was one of the acclaimed leaders of Nox.
"Hard not to judge a book by its cover," he thought, glancing at Alyssa again. Though her real gender was concealed from Lios, it still left the impression that she was a girl or - a more logical assumption - a boy in his teenage years. This impression was giving him doubts about his client's credibility. Is (s)he really one of the leaders of Nox? Lios quietly pretend he didn't see how his client's feet didn't even touch the floor.
His tankard had gotten light. He was far from tipsy from just one mug but he was going to reek alcohol in a while. That wouldn't really make a difference in a bar since everyone drank.
At least, that's what he assumed.
He caught the bartender hand his client a glass of water.
"Are you serious?" Jumping to conclusions wasn't a good thing but shrugging everything what he'd seen so far was stupid. Since this was the kind of person Nox's "leader" was showing himself to be, Lios had no choice but to be a little skeptical about this.
Lios folded the tabloid to his hands and walked to the counter, taking the immediate seat beside Alyssa. His eyes remained hidden behind his dark shades with his long, dark golden hair pulled into a thin-layered mane behind his back. Lios made sure his presence was felt, that there was something he wanted to say. At the slightest moment Alyssa would glance at him, he would slip in a small smile.
"Are you here alone? Maybe you can accompany me tonight."
There was no shame in Lios when he emphasized the implications in his words. He was damn straight so hitting on another guy didn't make him guilty. He was interested on what his client's response would be to see just what kind of person he was and if he really was who he claimed to be.
