Battle of Village Bridge Round 1 VS Leaf
Alyssa stood at the end of the bridge. She felt discomforted for a number of reasons. First and foremost, she was partaking in an assault on Lux forces to make the first stand in Unova - a place she had only been once before. Her feelings towards war had not changed in the slightest, even though she had experienced a ‘promotion’ of sorts in the comparatively close past. No more than a month ago she had been moved from the typical ranks of Nox forces to the Hoenn regional leader. She was in the position to lead forces of her home region. Despite the words of encouragement from people she’d met fairly recently, she hadnt yet gotten used to the fact within her own mind. Truly it gave her a sense of empowerment, but deep down she knew it was also an increased sense of danger for her. She didn’t know how rapidly word and reports had spread through Lux, but for her pokemon’s sake more than her own she hoped that word had spread slowly.
Sighing a bit, Alyssa glanced around. Nox members all stood beside her at the end of the bridge, ready for the first signs of Lux to appear on the other side if the bridge, to the right or left, or even so much as behind them. She was the only one currently centered before the stone arch, while the others were scattered along the sides of the river that flowed beneath it. Small islands of land and the extension of the mainland and cement walk into the river made it almost connect in some places. They were facing a battle, and this was war. For all Alyssa knew, people and pokemon could die today, and that was the last thing she wanted to happen. She rested her hand on the pokeballs on her belt. She didn’t want to risk any of them, nor did she want to do so in any battle nowadays.
She sighed again and looked at the ground, scuffing her black sneakers against the stone, before starting a walk forward, closer to the middle of the bridge. She didn’t know who she would see once she made it to the middle of the bridge, seeing as it arched upwards slightly. Whatever this war for a stronghold and power may present... she thought, narrowing her cerulean eyes at the stones beneath her feet. I hope it’s over easily and quickly....with minimum casualties, if any. She kept her pokemon in their pokeballs, to protect them as long as possible.

Alyssa remained standing on the bridge, shivering every now and then thanks to the cold air and the snow falling all around her. Each time she exhaled, she was able to see her breath, rising like a mist from her mouth before she took her next breath. Alyssa’s eyes closed and she sighed quietly. She didn’t want to be here. Hell, she didn’t want to take part in any of the wars that raged between Lux and Nox. At the time, though, and given her position, it was damn near impossible. She’d been at the Battle of Olivine, but she’d been unable to attend the Battle of Sootopolis. If there was any battle she could choose to attend – if forced to choose – it would be one in her homeland of Hoenn. The last place she wanted to have a battle was someplace, practically, completely unknown to her like Unova was now.
A slight sound made her open her eyes. The sound of footsteps on the stone bridge – although quiet – brought Alyssa from her pit of thought. Although the footsteps were quiet, they were still loud enough to be heard, considering the only other sounds were the quiet rumblings of voices behind Alyssa, and the win…so far as the white-haired trainer could hear anyway. She kept her gaze lowered to the ground, listening as footsteps drew closer until her attention was practically commanded by the owner of the footsteps. ”You there!” Alyssa looked up, her eyes appearing half-closed behind her bangs. It was a brown-haired girl, with a primarily white hat covering the top of her head. A red half-pokeball design was centered on it, adding a bit of an attention-drawing taste to it.
If I were into fashion at all, I would probably think it was cute… Alyssa mused silently, giving her attention to the girl who now continued to speak.
”This is Lux property. I suggest you leave. If you don’t I’ll remove you!” Alyssa frowned slightly. Well, this wouldn’t go quietly. It wasn’t as though Alyssa had expected it to, seeing as it was a war after all. The least she had maintained was an outside, practically impossible hope that things could be settled more peacefully than they were going to be. But then again, outside and implausible hopes like that never happened, did they? The girl before her shifted her stance to a more empowering one. Alyssa wasn’t intimidated by it, but she didn’t let her eyes leave the person she assumed she would have to challenge in a starting blow of the Battle of Village Bridge.
Sighing, Alyssa gave the girl a careful look-over and lowered her hands to her belt, her fingers brushing lightly against the three pokeballs on each side, resting on her hips. The girl before her had a gun. That was a problem. Alyssa was automatically unwilling to send her pokemon out into battle with that on the horizon. She knew that if she didn’t even bother doing anything, there would be greater consequences than death. Swallowing, Alyssa thought hard, trying to think of something to say – perhaps something along the lines of a persuasive attempt at a bargain that was not entirely unreasonable?
”This is no teams property as of yet…” Alyssa said, keeping her voice calm. ”And that’s why we’re here. To decide if Lux or Nox will make the first stronghold.” She paused, finding her pokemon of choice. She clicked two pokeballs off of her belt and clicked the centers, expanding them in her grip. Her right hand held a predominantly black Luxury Ball, adorned with silver trim and red-orange-gold detailing, while her left balanced a standard, red-and-white pokeball atop its palm.
”Can I make a deal with you?” she asked, almost idly and continuing before the girl had a chance to answer. ”I’m the sort of person that appreciates a fair fight whenever I’m given the chance. If you don’t use that firearm strapped to your waist…” Alyssa nodded to the mentioned object. ”…we can settle this easily, and the traditional way – a pokemon battle with minimal casualties. I don’t know about you but I want as few pokemon to get hurt today as possible. Not just my own.”
She swallowed, biting her lip. Although she didn’t like the prospect of the gun being considered fair game, it was a gamble she would have to take. Although, her words had been completely truthful. She didn’t like the thought of her pokemon getting hurt, but she also didn’t like the thought of any pokemon, for that matter, being injured in war.
Tossing the pokeballs into the air, she released her pokemon, the beams of red energy hitting the stone ground and materializing as the balls fell back to her hands. She caught them and made them smaller, clicking them back on her belt as the pokemon became more than simply glowing Silhouettes. Before her stood a Gallade, his green arm blades crossed before him defensively, and a small, black Weavile, his claws raised in an aggressive manner, the pink-red crown and collar practically fluffing up with the energy surging through his body.
Now, she would just have to wait, and hope the girl had at least a speck of reason and concern for the safety of her pokemon within her.

The longer Alyssa observed the brown-haired Lux member, the stronger a feeling of recognition within Alyssa grew. She recognized the young woman from somewhere, but she couldn’t easily label when or where. When she encountered someone on a day-to-day basis, Alyssa could easily recall a name that matched a face. However, this was not one of those faces, and the nagging feeling at the inside of Alyssa would probably annoy her fairly quickly. Blinking once, she forced as much of the feeling back as possible. She would give her full attention in this battle, no matter what other thoughts were running through her mind.
”Trust me. Nox will have a hell of a hard time. I’ll make sure of it. You want a deal that I won’t use my weapon on Pokemon? Fine.” Alyssa silently exhaled a breath of thanks to Arceus. The opponent before her was reasonable at least in the sense that she wouldn’t harm the pokemon, letting a regular battle take place. Alyssa wouldn’t press the brown-haired woman’s willingness to comply to requests that would seem selfish in wartime as far as asking for a regular battle – rather than the war-like battles that had become a commonplace – between their pokemon. Alyssa knew that the agreement they had just made would hold to only pokemon, but not other humans that supported the team of Nox.
That was good enough for Alyssa, though.
”Let’s start then. Phobe! Set the stage with an Ice Beam under the bridge.” from where she was standing, Alyssa only just saw the upper portion of a Feebas appear before vanishing out of sight. Is she really planning on using a Feebas in battle...? Alyssa wondered, looking at the battlefield, at the backs of her Weavile and Gallade. Unless you breed a female Milotic with a male Corsola that knows Mirror Coat to attain that move in the Feebas resulting from the cross, the only other ‘useful’ moves you can teach it until it evolves is Ice Beam... she said, not letting the confusion show on her face. Though I suppose you could breed it to know Dragon Pulse or Dragonbreath... she mused quietly, her eyes widening slightly as the entire battlefield became covered in a layer of ice.
She barely managed to contain her grin. Weavile would be pleased. The black-and-red sharp-claw pokemon seemed to do a little jig of excitement when he saw the ice. Ice and snow were two things he loved. Ever since Alyssa captured him in the Northernmost area of Sinnoh, he had longed for winters to come every year, seeing as the abrupt climate change from when she took him to Hoenn was a bit of a shock to his senses.
”Well then, the stage is set. Shall we start?” Alyssa watched as she threw two pokeballs to the field, revealing the forms of a Pidgeot in the air, and a Raichu on the ground. Kanto pokemon, eh? Those were some she hadn’t seen for a while. This would be an easy win. The high-leveled pokemon of the Sinnoh regional Gym challenged had been more to handle than any Kanto pokemon she’d ever encountered. ”My pokemon are trained to battle to win. This is war. I suggest you get ready. The battle starts now. Make your move!”
Alyssa smiled slightly and relaxed a bit, putting her hands easily in her pockets as she thought for a moment. There was any number of battle strategies she could use with her combination of pokemon out at the moment. She decided to take a straightforward and powerful route. ”My pokemon are more than the Elite Four of any region can handle!” she said calmly, despite raising her voice to be heard over the battles erupting all around them. Although she didn’t get the chance to challenge Elite Four and Champions of any region in truth thanks to the war breaking out, she had utmost confidence in her abilities – provided she had the correct team. ”My pokemon only know how to battle and win as well. I’d say yours have a good challenge.”
Closing her eyes, Alyssa gave her opening strategy a final thought before giving the commands to her pokemon.
”Weavile, let’s get your fighting spirit up with a Swords Dance!” the Weavile obliged, his vicious curled claws growing longer and glowing purple as the pokemon spun about, hopping from side to side, the jumps steadily growing higher. ”You have an aerial target, so this will be fun for you, Ice Punch!” The Weavile slashed at the icy ground, his sharp claws ripping through the ice, leaving three parallel lines scored in it. Her pokemon dashed to the side of the bridge, his right paw glowing a bright white-blue before he used the guardrail to leap into the air, flying for the Pidgeot to deliver an icy blow.
As her pokemon dashed for the side, the white-haired trainer looked back at her Gallade. ”Knight, let’s shake this battle to its roots, eh?” Understanding what she meant, the chivalrous pokemon gave a nod before leaping into the air, barely avoiding crossing paths with Weavile jumping as well. As the Gallade landed fairly near the Raichu, he drove the arm blades of his into the ground, splitting the ice covering the stone bridge before the whole bridge erupted with the sound of cracking as the ground rumbled, turning the battlefield from a solid, ice-coated mirror to a split-leveled ground.
”Earthquake!”

”My, quite the arrogant trainer aren’t we?” Alyssa tilted her head down, allowing her bangs to cover her eyes. Although they wouldn’t hide her expression entirely, they would at least hide the laughter in her eyes. The smirk that spread across her face was almost closer to a grin. She’d been called that before, definitely. Especially in Hoenn when she was younger and she told almost anybody she battled that she would one day be more famous than even the Champion. Sure, that had gotten her laughs, and many adults telling her to come back to reality, but she had kept saying it over and over. She trained day and night, pushing both herself and her pokemon to limits of exhaustion. She knew of at least one time where she had actually fallen over and fallen unconscious because she had been so tired. That dream was now closer to her reality than anything else. Though she hadn’t attained it before the war broke out, she hoped that the dream would be solidified once it ended – and she would help to end it.
She had heard the rest of what the trainer said, but she decided to skip out on responding for now. She would wait until she instructed her pokemon on their next moves. She looked up through her bangs and watched the battle unfold as her opponent instructed her pokemon. Her pokemon had been together long enough to know how they worked best with each other. Of course, some of their personalities clashed and made things difficult every now and then. She’d needed to use one of her pokemon to break up two others that had a disagreement that escalated more than once. Despite how poorly a training session may have gone, though, Alyssa knew she could rely on her pokemon to aid each other in battle. Although she trusted her pokemon to make decisions on their own, they all looked to her for a course of action – in case she saw one better than theirs.
The Pidgeot in the air above her heads spread its wings wide to allow the hit. Some would consider a Pidgeot displaying its full wingspan to be intimidating. She knew other pokemon did, she’d seen a negative reaction before in younger pokemon when beside a full-grown Pidgeot. Weavile wasn’t the sort of pokemon to be intimidated, especially by something as simple as that. Normally, Weavile was the one intimidating others. His naturally aggressive nature was one thing, then coupled with the sharp claws that almost always seemed to be poised to strike at any given moment. The icy punch collided with the Pidgeot’s wing, giving a small eruption of blue light as it made contact, sending the bird-pokemon spiraling downwards until he swooped into a dive to pick the Electric-Mouse pokemon up as the Earthquake struck the bridge.
Although the powerful ground-type attack’s power had been consciously minimized by the Gallade – as not to actually destroy the bridge – it had definitely done what it was meant to do. The ice coating the battlefield shattered, cracking in all directions and becoming split leveled. It was more like square-cut slabs of ice that were uneven now, particularly in the center where the quake had radiated from. As it died, the whole bridge groaned in protest. Alright, so maybe an Earthquake on a stone bridge was a bit overkill… Alyssa thought silently. But Knight didn’t even make it full-power… She made a mental note that if she was going to finish one of these pokemon, her Gallade would need to make the opponent’s pokemon the epicenter.
Weavile had landed seconds before the Earthquake split the ground below him. He got away from that by engaging in another one of his frenetic Swords Dance, jumping off the ground as the quake split the ice below him. Knight looked up just in time to see the Pidgeot dive to deliver an attack at him. The blue orb produced from the bird pokemon alarmed the Gallade. He crossed his arm blades defensively and started jumping backwards just as it came down, hitting the fronts of his arms and leg as he tried to get away from it. For the most part, he did, but he had lost some energy from the technique. These pokemon were serious. Fair enough, it would be a better fight than he’d had in a while. He landed feet back, parallel with the other trainer, but facing away from her. His eyes darted to the side to look at Weavile.
The Sharp-Claw pokemon narrowly avoided the large bolt of Thunder that had struck out at him making use of yet another frenetic Swords Dance to keep himself a moving target. Though pleased to have avoided being electrocuted, his eyes were wide. That was too close of a call. The Raichu had increased its speed, but Weavile didn’t see it as a threat (yet). He was faster still – for the time, anyway, if there were more Agilities used, they would probably be on the same level, and it would be a contest of speed. He dashed in the direction of the Raichu which stood by its trainer, head-on. A stupid move, one could think. His clawed paw glowed blue-white again as he looked up, to the Pidgeot that was closer to the ground now than he had been previously. Giving a powerful jump, Weavile came at the bird pokemon from below, aiming to strike its belly with another Ice Punch, this time stronger than the previous one.
Seeing his partner move, Knight dashed for the orange mouse, his arm blades growing bright green and lengthening. Coming in from the side, he spread his arms and slashed downwards as he came down towards the Raichu, releasing Leaf Blade.
”Your pokemon have some good combinations!” Alyssa said, having observed the battle. Truly, it made her happy to see a trainer that didn’t appear to rely on simply power alone. ”As far as my attitude goes, I wouldn’t say arrogant…” she said with a bit of a smile. She wasn’t actually offended by the comment. ”I’d call it more confidence in my abilities...and for good reason!” She watched her pokemon make their moves. ”Being a trainer requires many things; knowledge, strategy, luck, guts, spirit, bravery, and ability. However, there is one thing I’ve found that is more important than all others – the bond a trainer has with their pokemon!” she paused before adding, ”Trainers that don’t posses these qualities don’t stand a chance of defeating me. My pokemon and I are more than just Trainer-and-Pokemon. We are friends and partners above all else. I’m hoping you’re the same, that way this will be a rather exciting fight!”
In truth, if the young woman from Lux standing before her did posses a powerful bond with her pokemon and wound up defeating Alyssa, the white-haired trainer would lose the ability to say she’d been undefeated for years, yes, but she wouldn’t so much mind losing to a trainer that loved their pokemon as she would have someone who was in it for no more than the power.
Doesn’t mean I plan on losing, though…

Leaf lost by default, having not responded within the 72 hour time limit for War-Battle threads.
Outcome: Alyssa came out victorious, having inflicted severe damage upon Pidgeot by spamming repeatedly using Ice Punch with Swords Dance. Gallade took out Raichu by pinning the mouse-pokemon and using it as the epicenter of another Earthquake.
The stone Village Bridge was Earthquake'd...twice. Overkill, maybe?
