LIKES:
KIND/BENEVOLENT :: She almost always wears a smile, and always keeps a positive mind-set. The only time you wouldnt see a smile on her face was if she was seriously thinking, dead, or fighting for her life or Kirigakure...she even holds an unwavering smile when delivering death threats (which, needless to say, could be kept without hesitation). Though she rarely has someone that gets on her bad side, there are a few, and she will still respect them, and not seek out to degrade them morally or esteem-wise in any way. She believes that all people are equal, and that all people are born with an innate humanitarian sense. However, some people choose to betray this sense and defect from their village and become Missing-Nins or groups of Missing-Nins like Akatsuki. When fighting an opponent, if the match leads up to a death battle, she will respect their last wishes, and see to it that they are somehow carried out, provided they are not obscene, un-doable, or crazy -- like killing herself or someone else for no reason.
LEVEL-HEADED/REASONABLE :: Ever since she was young, Mei has always kept her wits and self about her, even in stressful situations. It was odd for someone at her age to be so self-composed and sensible. There are few things in the world that are capable of getting on her nerves, but if there is anything, it would be people that comment on her age, or marriageability. She is easily offended with this area, so they are labeled as a "soft topics" in the minds of those who are often near her. Though she keeps her temper about her when a discussion about either of the topics, she will quickly deliver a smiley, not-deserved death threat to the unfortunate person who mentions one of the topics. However, that being said, whenever someone uses words in a phrase that could be mistakenly directed at her, or taken the wrong way, Mei would probably be the one to do so. For instance, if the words "need" and "man" are in the same sentence or phrase, Mei would probably translate that as whoever speaking telling her she needs a man. Something like this is a prime example of Mei delivering an un-deserved death threat.
CALM/PATIENT :: Mei maintains a calm and professional manner, and seems to always be focused more on achieving the best solution rather than just "defeating the bad guys" as other leaders in Kiri's past have been. Mei is calm to an extent where some in Kiri consider it 'abnormal'. Because of how long she is willing to wait, some of her advisors chide her a bit at how her patience seems to be unlimited, even with the smallest, most annoying issues. To this, she can only grin. She doesnt know exactly why she is so unnerved by people with annoying or pointless arguments, or those that are outright rash in their actions...people who would give anyone else a giant headache. While she is working, she is all business..no sense of humor, no time seems good to kick back, nothing...just the smile that stays glued on her face. When dealing with more civil issues, she initiates an argument between the two sides diplomatically, and asks that one state their claims, and the other state any objections and their claims. She is a fair judge of things like these, and she tries to make Kirigakure as peaceable as she can by dealing with issues as calmly as she does, in hopes that the citizens will pick up the torch and follow her example.
FLIRTATIOUS :: Mei will never back down from an opportunity to possibly hook up with a male of similar age. She doesnt have a preference for them to be taller or shorter than her, or if there is a few years difference in their age, they just need to be good looking. She will head in to captivate them with her "alluring feminine influence", and then hopefully continue to get to know them some, and become a couple. She will use flattery, compliments, kindness, and straight-forward loving to get a hold of a man and keep them...whatever is possible. As stated previously, she is sort of touchy on her relationship status, and this is because she loved once, but her love went MIA, and was never seen again. She is still not quite over that, but she hopes that a new addition in her life will help her to get over that. However, the Mizukage is very serious in battle and has no trouble cutting down any enemies that are foolish enough to cross her path, no matter how "good looking" they might be.

OVERALL HISTORY:
Mei was raised lovingly by her parents. They always put her before themselves. They were willing to sacrifice time from their days to take care of her, and they spared as much as possible from their shinobi duties with her if she was sick. By the time she was three, she was already showing skills for a social and civilian life that far exceeded any other three year old; she was smart...her parents could see it in her eyes. She did not talk all that much, but when she did, she actually sounded like she put logic behind what she said, not just some baby babble. Sure, she was still three, so she went on about ludicrous things like the latest toy or the most interesting and "star" shinobi there was of Kiri at the time, but she far exceeded others her age with her mental and social skills. She also appeared to be diplomatic and kind. She rarely got into fights, and not that many children seemed to have something against her...even when they got into a start of a squabble over sharing the toy. Mei was always willing to let them share first, then take her turn. She avoided conflict as much as possible, but when she did get into a conflict, she tried to inch out of it as carefully and intelligently as possible.
At the age of five, Mei's potential as a ninja began to shine through her well-mannered exterior. She started questioning her parents about what they do on a daily basis, the structure of where they work, why they do what they do, who they work for, etc. Though baffled by her questions, her parents gladly answered. This was a bit of a serious talk to have with someone Mei's age, because in this talk her parents explained that if one of them were to not return, they probably died on the mission they were assigned. Though Mei did not fully understand, she admired the way her parents put their lives into the village, and were willing to defend it with just that. She decided that she, too, wanted to follow in her parents' footsteps to become the greatest shinobi she could be. However, she still had alot to learn..she wasnt even in the Academy. But, her parents figured that she could probably start learning the basics, for instance...about chakra, jutsu, the ninja ranks, the different missions, weapons, how to fight, etc. She listened eagerly, glad to have found something that interested her. She was able to pay attention for that reason, and her interest didnt seem to falter that much until her parents gave her an overview of weapons...she was more interested in Ninjutsu than any of the other jutsu, even though one weapon caught her eye: the Bo Staff.
With her newfound interest, she asked her parents if she could learn how to use it. Neither of them had ever used one before, and they didnt want her learning how to use one just yet...she was too short. They promised her that once she became a Chuunin, they would get her one...so long as she proved her talent as a shinobi. This gave her more motivation than just trying to live up to her namesake to be a good shinobi. She consulted her parents about trying to become a shinobi as soon as possible, and they decided that they would enroll her in the Academy after the current class graduated. Hers would be the first class that would not use the barbaric graduation ritual to graduate...the Mizukage finally made the decision to rid Kirigakure of the ritual of pitting students against one another...but instead the students were to duel their sensei's individually. The most recent class graduated, and at the mere age of six, Mei's parents entered her in the Academy.
Eager to learn, she breezed the first twelve months of her Academy lessons, studying hard every night to review what she had learned in class. The next six months of her time in the Academy was spent learning and mastering the most basic Ninjutsu, shuriken and kunai techniques. The Ninjutsu came rather easily to her...in fact, she proceeded to master some Genin Ninjutsu, like the water-walking technique and tree-climbing technique. The weapons came a bit more difficult, but she promised herself that she would master these basic shinobi weapons so she could use a bo staff. Her mother and father thought that maybe they could start teaching her the basics about elemental ninjutsu. They did not expect the chakra paper to react, nor did it. Mei figured that she had yet to master chakra control before she could succeed in this. The last six months of her Academy days went fairly quickly, and she was ready to graduate.
All she needed to do was fight her main Academy sensei. Of course, he had to easy on them all, and to some it was a challenge. To her, however, the only difficulty she had was blocking some of the weapons...her sensei was good with aiming, so that was the only thing that was potentially dangerous for her. She was able to demonstrate almost all of her basic Ninjutsu for this, and having done so efficiently, she graduated...one of the few to from her class.
GENIN YEAR :: From her Academy class, at eight years old, Mei was only one of six students to graduate. They were deemed full-fledged Kirigakure shinobi. She was paired up with two other decent Genin. Suzuki Mitsi and Nakashi Homura, a Genjutsu-type and a Taijutsu-type by preference respectively. She had talked to them, of course, so it was not like they were total strangers to each other. Their sensei was Saito Daisuke, and he was quite appreciative that they werent dead silent to each other and they could actually get along. He did not have the patience to go through and introduce them to each other and have them warm up to each other.
Soon enough, Mei and the team she was a part of, Team 5, were assigned their first set of missions. They were easy enough to complete because of their simplicity...E ranked missions such as walking dogs, weeding gardens, catching stray animals, etc. She, Mitsi and Homura all wanted to have a bit of a more challenging mission, but their sensei warned them not to say anything to Yagura, Yondaime Mizukage. Yagura, in the village was known for what sort of rule he was bringing upon Kirigakure...a blood-stained one. People feared him, and not just because of the dreaded rule he was bringing--it was no secret in the village that he was Sanbi's Jinchuuriki. They feared him for that, even the current generations, because of the influence their parents had...once, of course, it was explained to them what a Jinchuuriki actually was.
Instead of daring to approach Yagura about getting a more challenging missions, Mei asked Daisuke-sensei if they could actually stop going on missions and focus more on training. He was surprised by her question...because nobody had come forward to him before asking to skimp out on missions to train. At this, Mitsi and Homura backed her up. They too, would rather spend their time training to get better than going on missions that may get Kirigakure money, but wasted their time. Daisuke-sensei agreed, and refreshed their knowledge of basic Ninjutsu. Also, he gave them some pointers in the most basic forms of Genjutsu and Taijutsu, so that they were equally balanced in these aspects of their shinobi life. Respectively, Mei, Mitsi and Hamura made it clear that they all wanted to specialize in Ninjutsu, Genjutsu and Taijutsu. Faced with this, Daisuke made a choice to train with each of them specifically, benefiting their needs and wants.
Overjoyed, they started their training at once. He gave them each a basic set or technique to start practicing with. Starting with the Demonic Illusion: Hell Viewing Technique for Mitsi, basic matial arts forms with Homura, and precise chakra control for Mei. However, he pulled Mei aside at one point and asked her if he knew anything about the chakra nature determining test. She responded truthfully, saying she had tried it once before but couldnt focus her chakra into the paper correctly. He urged her to try again, and the outcome was different...very different. Once she had let her chakra sit in the paper, it ignited alarmingly. Seconds later, though, before she could even process this to flinch, the paper dampened, invisible moisture crawling over it until it dried and crumbled away.
She stared at it with wide eyes. She honestly had no idea what that meant, so she looked at her sensei with wide, confused eyes, and back down at the paper again. She had asked him 'So, what is my chakra nature...?'. He had stared at her for a good, long time before he spoke again. He told her that at her age, it frankly was impossible to have more than one chakra nature, whereas what the paper had just done displayed that she had not one, not two, but three. She was as confused as he sounded, and he went on to tell her that the only explanation for this was that she had a kekkei genkei of sorts. Mei had done her reading and studying in the Academy, and she flat-out refused the idea of a kekkei genkei...she was sure neither of her parents had a kekkei genkei. She stared stupefied at her sensei, and he asked her if there was any other way that was possible. She couldnt believe it...she had a bloodline limit? How did that happen?
Their training was soon decided to be 'finished' for the day, and she eagerly went home. She had plenty to ask of her parents tonight. As they sat down for dinner, she immediately brought the subject up, explaining what had happened. After her parents had looked at each other for a moment, they told her the truth: each of them did. Her father was able to use a rare technique: Youton jutsu, the fusing of Doton and Katon, and her mother could use Futton jutsu, the fusing of Katon and Suiton. Though confused, she let this sink in her head. She went to bed soon after, but was awoken in the early hours of the morning to a scream, and the clattering of metal.
She heard her fathers voice, but she couldnt understand it. His voice was distressed, loud, and confused. Her father was Kirigakures head Jounin of the time, so he had a close group of Jounin that would stick by his side no matter what. Or, so he thought. Before Mei could register what was happening, she was in her mothers arms, and her mother placed her in their bedroom, rejoining her seconds later with a katana in her hand. Mei asked what was happening, but her mother wouldnt tell her. She was too concentrated on the door infront of their room. Pulling a blanket over them, making them look like a lump in the corner of the room, they stayed silent. Seconds later, her father burst through. Except, he had been thrown. Mei could not make out much in the darkness, but she could see blood. Her green eyes widened in terror as she understood what was happening. Her father performed some quick hand seals and blew something at the hole in the wall. It was a dark red-orange, and from where she was, feet away, she could feel heat. It hit her then that that must be the Youton ninjutsu she'd been told about earlier. The thought hit her just as the other shinobi came through the doors. They were on top of him before he could do anything, and they slit a kunai through his clothes from his left shoulder to his right hip. Mei tried to scream, but the only thing that came out was silence, and tears from her eyes. She was no expert, but she knew her father did not have much longer.
She and her mother cried silently together as the other shinobi searched her house, and left about two minutes later. She crawled out of the blanket, screaming her fathers name. He had conserved his energy for the precious minute that he had with her. He told her that she would need to become Mizukage one day to end the terror-filled rein that Yagura's was turning into...and she would change Kirigakure. He said that he knew he would progress because she had both bloodlines from he and her mother. His last breaths and words came out choppy; he was dying and he knew it, but he told her two last things...and her mother had come to listen for these last, precious, words. He told Mei how to use the Youton style, and why he was killed that night; Kirigakure had entered a state of civil strife. It had been building up for a while now, ever since the Kagyua clan waged war against Kirigakure, but now it finally burst...Kekkei Genkei were feared for war that they would bring, so anyone with a Kekkei Genkei was to be killed. He thought he could confide in his comrades, but how wrong he was; they were the ones that dealt the finishing blow to him. With his last breath, he told her to practice in secret, and grow more powerful and more beautiful than anyone that ever lived in Kiri. The light faded from his eyes, and she burst out in tears. Taking hold of his cooling hands, she swore over his body that she would become Mizukage...and no one was going to stop her.
The next morning, she and her mother gave her father an honorable burial before she had to go to go train. By the time she arrived on the field, Daisuke-sensei was alone, and he was giving her a hard look. No doubt he had heard what had happened overnight. He told her to sit so they could talk. He told her what really happened. The Mizukage came to realize a fear for those possessing advanced bloodlines, and sent out an unofficial order that anyone with an advanced bloodline was to be killed, for fear of civil war breaking out. However, in ordering with his fear, he had created a civil war himself. Her sensei then asked her to tell him the truth. She debated for a long while, and decided that it was best that she tell him...she felt a compulsion that she could trust him. She told him that she not only had one, but two kekkei genkei. He feared that, but he told her that this whole order against those of advanced bloodlines was the worst thing that had ever happened.
As a Jounin, he felt that it was his duty to go against Mizukage's orders when something was amiss, and this was one of those times. Daisuke-sensei then vowed that he would train her how to use each of her Kekkei Genkei as best he could, provided she promised to keep them a secret...at least until it was safe. She promised him that, and they began training her on how to use Doton ninjutsu, an effective tool against alot of the Genin of Kiri, who had Suiton Ninjutsu. Over the next nine months of balancing missions 25% of the time, training in formations with her teammates another 25% of the time, and training individually 50% of the time, she accumulated a knowledge with some effective Doton Ninjutsu techniques. Daisuke-sensei then deemed each of them eligible to compete in this years Chuunin exams, which were to be held Konohagakure that year.
Little time was spent preparing for the trip she would take to Konoha, but she spent more time fretting about what challenges would await her on this than what actual dangers she would face. After a long, uneventful journey to Konohagakure no Sato, Mei, Mitsi and Homura entered with a confidence that they had lacked when they first left Kiri...they were confident in their teamwork, and how to get by whatever stood in their way together. They reached their hotel room, where they discussed strategies for the following day: the first part of the Exam.
THE CHUUNIN EXAM :: The next morning, Team 5 was up early and ready to go. They had one last talk with Daisuke-sensei as they prepared to depart for the first part of the exam. He told them each to use the other's strength to their advantage. A triangle-formation with Mei and her Ninjutsu in the lead would be most beneficial, followed up by Mitsi's Genjutsu to counter, and Homoura's Taijutsu to defend from behind. They nodded, and on the way to the building where the first part of the exams were to be held, they were discussing possible battle strategies. It occurred then to Mitsi and Homoura that Mei was younger than them, at age nine after a year of being together as a team. Mei had never really thought about that before now, and so she told them not to worry and that she could take care of something, and she would never let them die. They seemed a bit at ease thanks to her words, so when they encountered the building, they entered silently with confident smiles on their faces.
Upon entering the building, they immediately heard some sort of ruckus going on on the second floor. Hurrying up there, they tried to decipher what it was. Two Chuunin-level shinobi were blocking the door to room, labeled 300-where the Genin were supposed to meet before their first exam. Confused as to what was going on, Team 5 stopped to listen. People were complaining and trying to get past the Chuunin blocking the door, but getting rebuffed each time. Everybody wanted in that room, even though they were on the wrong floor. Trying to wrap her head around the situation, Mitsi spoke up, her cool voice silencing the crowd and gathering some stares. She stated that they were only on the second floor, and everyone had fallen into the trap of one of the most basic Genjutsu known to shinobi. Using Kai, she opened everyones eyes to see the truth -- it was actually room 200. Silenced, and looking rather humiliated, the rest of the Genin followed Team 5 up the next flight of stairs where they waited for further instructions.
They did not have to remain in the waiting room long, for soon their proctor made her presence known. She announced that the first task would be a written exam; and it was nothing like what Mei expected. She and her teammates were fanned out randomly in the room, and this test wasnt a general shinobi knowledge test, it was completely different. She could only answer three of the nine questions presented, and she knew that she was seen once trying to make contact with Mitsi. Too bad Mitsi couldnt produce a strong enough Genjutsu that it would put everyone in the room under the illusion that they were testing and not exchanging answers. Many people were called out from the room for cheating, and by the time the first part of the test was over, ten teams had been disqualified. Those that managed to stay were all tricked...they were told that the next question was basically 'do or die' but it was a freebie. The proctor had decided to let them pass with a free question for having the skill to stay in this part of the exam for as long as possible.
The next day, they were to face the second challenge: Konoha's Forest of Death. The name itself was bad enough, but what awaited them inside was much worse. It was a free-for-all, survival of the fittest, kill or be killed melee of Genin and whatever abnormal creatures lived in that forest. Team 5 had been challenged fairly soon into the exam by a team from Iwagakure. With the range of specialties that Mei's team possessed, they won fairly easily, and recovered the scroll from the other team, granting them the two scrolls they needed to gain access to the next part of the challenge. However, the forest itself was like a giant maze. They wandered for two days, taking small breaks of three hours to sleep in one-hour-intervals while the other(s) kept watch. They encountered many other teams, but all of their battles came to stalemates due to both side's lack of sleep, hunger, and thirst. Mitsi had thought ahead and packed a 'stick-to-your-ribs' sort of snack that Mei, Mitsi and Homura shared on the second day to satisfy their hunger. A nearby stream provided them with a much-needed drink of water. By the night of the second day, or possibly early morning of the third, they finished wandering and reached the very center, where they presented their scrolls and were cleared. While waiting for more teams to show up, the time limit elapsed, and only five other Genin came through.
All of the other Genin had either died, were killed, dropped out of the challenge, or opened their scrolls early. This narrowed the field drastically, and they were given a month before the finals of the exam. They were able to catch up with Daisuke-sensei and tell him all about what they'd gone through. They were dirty, tired, hungry, thirsty, and eager to use this next month to train to the best of their ability.
They worked together, collaborating what they had learned to spar against each other and try to come out on top. However, when asked to engage in spars with Mitsi and Homura, she declined half the time, wanting to refresh her knowledge of Doton Ninjutsu, and practice the new technique combination she'd read about; Doryuu Taiga + Doryuudan. It would provide her with a fair defense and a good offense. Used in conjunction with Kirigakure no Jutsu, she would probably be able to sneak up on the enemy. She already knew how to perform Doryuu Taiga and Kirigakure no Jutsu, so now she had only one month to continue learning the Doryuudan...and maybe start trying to gain some Katon ninjutsu.
By the time the month passed, she was ready for battle. She was paired up with an Amegakure shinobi to fight. The battle had been alot more intense than Mei had expected. The Amegakure Genin was good with weapons, and Suiton Ninjutsu. She was able to use the Suiton jutsu to her advantage with her Doton Ninjutsu, and just as she prepared to use Doryuudan, it hit her...or near her, anyway. When she wasnt looking, she took a kunai to the shoulders and one straight into the abdomen. They did not hit deep, but it was painful as though they had. As she looked up from the ground to see where they had come from, another kunai hit the ground, but this had an exploding tag on it. In a scramble to get away, she had tripped over herself and was about ten to twelve feet away when the explosion hit. The sound alone was agonizing, her ears were ringing and bled somewhat from the sudden, close, loud sound. The force threw her against a wall and left her in a state of shock for precious seconds. Her enemy was just about on top of her, ready to deal the finishing blow from the air when she acted.
She was in shock, everything was bright, pulsing, painful. Only one thing kept her from wanting to close her eyes to the surroundings which were killing her senses; Homura was screaming her name, telling her to get up and fight, because she would never become Mizukage if she lost here. That did it, and woke something up in Mei. That something came over her...she had never felt it before. It was a blazing heat that she felt like she could barely contain. It was energizing and she felt as though there was a huge amount of energy within her ready to burst. She did not know what was happening, but it the only way it could have been described was instinct. She performed unknown hand seals and gathered chakra in her throat and gullet and exhaled forcefully in the direction of the Amegakure shinobi that was just feet from her and falling towards her. Her mouth screamed with a burning pain as globs of incredibly hot, red-orange-brown, semi-liquid flew out of her mouth at the target. Upon impact, the Amegakure Genin fell to the floor of the stadium, screaming in pain as the globs, what Mei later realized to be lava, melted his clothes to the ground, and even to his skin, then she passed out, knowing she had won the match.
Mei woke up a day later in Konoha's hospital, bandaged up and with weird wax in her mouth to help heal the burns. There were also minor burns on her hands from where her over-heated saliva had dripped and calloused her skin. A few days later, she was released with medication she had to use to soothe the burns she had sustained. She met up with Homura, Mitsi and Daisuke-sensei to catch up on what she had missed, and explain herself. Mitsi had lost her match, as had Homura. However, Homura and herself had been selected to become Chuunin whereas Mitsi had not. Mei automatically tried to protest this, but Mitsi stopped her. She assured Mei that it was fine, and that she needed to improve anyway, and she felt that if she had become a Chuunin, she wouldnt have deserved it. Though Mei did not fully believe this, she said nothing and let Mitsi have it her way, because Mei felt that even if she said something, Mitsi would be just as defiant. Both Homoura and Mitsi thought she had just used some wicked Doton Ninjutsu when she had used Youton, having found a way to heat it within her body.
However, Daisuke-sensei knew better. He questioned her thoroughly about this, and she responded truthfully; something inside of her felt as if it had awoken, and she was unaware of her doings...she was almost unconscious when she performed the jutsu. She described what she felt to him in detail, and he seemed less alarmed than fascinated. He again told her what the situation about advanced bloodlines in Kirigakure was, and told her that if she wished to develop her Kekkei Genkei, she would need to train with him, alone, or in secret. She assured him she knew, and that they could return to Kiri without hesitation. Daisuke-sensei did not argue with her, so Team 5, or rather, the old Team 5 and their sensei departed Konoha for Kirigakure. Mei didnt know what became of her opponent after the match, but she heard that he was severely burned and wouldnt look the same again. She realized that this was the kind of power and strength she would need to change Kirigakure for the better and overcome anything or anyone that may stand in her way. At the age of eight, and now a Chuunin, she was well on her way.
CHUUNIN YEARS :: Since Mitsi didnt become a Chuunin, she was re-assigned to a different team while Diasuke-sensei, Homura and Mei remained on the same team. They also got a new team member, another Genjutsu user named Takeshi Akane. He had been promoted to Chuunin the year before, even though his teammates hadnt, and he had been left on their team for the time being. He took some getting used to, but he was reliable, smart, and a skilled Genjutsu user. In a mock battle, Daisuke-sensei even fell for a Genjutsu that Akane pulled him out of when there was a kunai at his throat. For eight years Mei remained a Chuunin, until she was sixteen. In those years, she was able to train in collaboration with Akane and Homura on their formations for battle. They went on some missions, varying in difficulty from D and C ranked missions, however, towards the end of the eight years they were even granted some B ranked missions...once they heightened their skills, of course.
However, they spent the gist of their time developing their techniques and new jutsu. Mei wanted to accomplish her Kekkei Genkei, and so in the time she had, all eight years of it, she was polishing her Dojutsu skills and developing her Katon Ninjutsu. She had mastered Doton Ninjutsu and had surpassed the basics of Katon Ninjutsu, learning D, C, and even a few B-ranked techniques by the time she was thirteen. She continued to develop her Ninjutsu skills from ages thirteen and sixteen, focusing on Katon since she had managed to master Doton. Also, she approached her mother about learning how to use the Bo Staff. She was taller now, and she had mastered Ninjutsus, just as her parents had requested all those years ago. She had fulfilled the promise she made, and her mother acknowledged this, and found Mei a master in Bojutsu, and she could begin her training immediately.
Three years passed, and Mei had become proficient in the use of Katon Ninjutsu, and she had mastered the use of Youton Ninjutsu, her Lava Style Kekkei Genkei. Through countless hours of practicing in secret, she had come to accomplish and conquer the powerful skill that had laid asleep within her. Though she would never fully get used to the burning throughout her mouth when she expelled the Lava, she came to cherish the fiery burning within her when she prepared to use it. It was similar to that of Katon Ninjutsu, but this was a much more intense heat and burning sensation.
In addition to keeping up her Ninjutsu skills, training with her team, and missions, she became proficient in the art of Bojutsu, and came to aquire her own bo-staff that was five feet, four inches long. It had a light metal coating on each end of ends to deal a heavier blow. She took after her master, Saru Koje in his type of Bojutsu -- defensive and offensive. Upon acquiring her bo staff, she named it Chigiri, promising to accomplish the title of Mizukage on the staff.
By the age of sixteen, she had acquired great Ninjutsu and Bojutsu arsenal, the closeness among herself, Homura, Akane and Daisuke-sensei grew to be a strong, unbreakable bond. However, her mother had passed at the age of sixty-two. She had been one of Kirigakures best Hunter Nin, so her loss was a great one. The most powerful impact of her death was on Mei, who became a Jounin days after her mother passed. Before she passed, she told Mei the secret and usage of Futton Ninjutsu, which would be the key to becoming Mizukage. Mei filed this information deep in her brain, and would soon work on how to unlock its potential.
JOUNIN YEARS :: On the day of her promotion ceremony, Akane came forward and professed his admiration of her for her great Ninjutsu skill. She was taken aback, especially when he told her he loved her. She didnt know what to do. She had no mother to go to and ask for assistance, or advice, and she had no female teammate to turn to. However, she had never really thought of him before as a possible significant other, and she could not bring herself to do so now. If she was ever going to love someone, she was going to fall in love with them, not try to twist herself to do so. She politely rejected him, and told him that he was a valuable teammate, and a valuable friend, but she didnt feel anything else.
A bit depressed by this, Akane came around after about a month, back to normal, but he seemed to be a bit less eager to talk to her than he had been. Still, the change was not drastic, but Daisuke-sensei picked up on it. He asked Mei what had happened, and she told him, for once in her life, to not get involved. He had respected her actions, and stayed out of it. Akane and Homura were soon promoted to Jounin following her...not even a month afterwards. They went their separate ways, spending their time training, going on missions, and helping around the village whenever they pleased. When she was twenty, Mei had mastered Katon Ninjutsu as well, and she began to walk the road to disclose how to use the Kekkei Genkei she had inherited from her mother, Futton: Boil Release. She knew it was Katon + Suiton Ninjutsu, but she did not have the faintest idea how to use Suiton Ninjutsu.
Then, one day, she received a summons to the Mizukage's office about a new mission for her to go on. The summons stated that she would have a partner, but it did not specify. She reported in a timely manner, and got to see the Mizukage Yagura for the third time...ever. She had rarely been given the privilege of having an audience with Yagura. However, this time, she was not alone. Standing in the office waiting for her was a face she had not seen in a very long time...Homura. She and Homura had never been a part of the most recent war, and were instead helping their village close-to-home. Their mission was to escort a business tycoon who, with proper "persuasion" could ensure the economic stability under Yagura. Homura and Mei obliged, and completed the mission easily in a number of days. On their way back, however, she and Homura were attacked. She and Homura managed to take down five of the enemies...they were poor shinobi, probably just bandits under the one shinobi that lead them. This one was more powerful, and proved a worthy opponent. He was clearly a missing-nin, but he had no identifying marks or clothing that gave away what village he belonged to. However, he was a skilled assassin, and turned Mei's Kirigakure no Jutsu technique against her. Just as she thought she had him in her range to attack, he appeared, a kunai against her back. Just as he was about to draw back and attack, Homura appeared out of nowhere with his incredible speed gained from his Taijutsu training.
He took the kunai deep into his stomach. Mei hadnt asked to be saved. It was her fault that she'd been caught in her own trap so easily. She was grateful to him for saving her life, but she was angry that he had put his life in the way so easily for hers to be taken. She didnt want him to die. If he died on a mission with her, she would blame herself for not being able to protect him...and thats what she was going to do. All of a sudden, she felt like she had during that battle in the Chuunin exams. Something inside her snapped...but this one was different. She had plenty of energy, and this feeling just seemed to intensify her will to fight and defend Homura, who was showing increasing weakness due to blood loss, even with the kunai still lodged in his abdomen. She felt braver, lighter, and more powerful.
She performed a string of hand seals out of instinct. She didnt know what she was doing, but she was thinking of the words her mother had told her about Futton jutsu before she died. To feel like you were balancing dry heat and moist liquid within you, but after balancing combining the two of them like water dousing fire, then expelling it through your mouth. Compressing chakra in her lungs and mouth, she exhaled forcefully in direction of the enemy, who was just about to pounce on Homura. There was no pain, and there was no burning sensation, just the feeling lthat her mouth was drying rather fast. She exhaled a gray-green mist that had a somewhat blue glow to it. She closed her eyes and concentrated her chakra, opening her eyes again, the glow had turned from blue to more of a red color, and the enemy was on the ground, clutching his throat and coughing. Soon, blood came from the coughs, and he lay on the ground, trembling. She soon canceled the technique, remembering what her mother had said, that the mist affects everyone but the user. She did not want to harm Homura more than he already was because of the mist...she had made it acidic to a corrosive extent and corroded away at the enemy's throat when he inhaled it.
After Mei got Homura back to Kiri, she stayed by his bedside until he fully healed. She was finally able to ask why he saved her life and put his on the line. He told her the only true reason; he loved her. She was shocked to hear this, and she looked inside herself...she felt that she loved him too. She couldnt explain how she knew it, but she somehow knew that she loved him, too. From then, they were dating, and inseparable. They went on missions together when they could, but otherwise they spent all their time together, from having nights out to nights together, to even training sessions. Over the next five years, Mei developed her Suiton ninjutsu. Being from Kirigakure no Sato, Suiton Ninjutsu came easier to her than Doton or Katon had, and she was able to quickly (by jutsu standards) master the Suiton nature, and she was able to utilize some of the more powerful Suiton Techniques within the time of five years. When she was twenty-six, and after six years together, Homura proposed to her. She gladly accepted, and they were to be wed six months from then.
That was, before tragedy struck Mei's life once more. She was re-cooperating from an injury she had sustained on a mission when she received the news. In a mission gone awry in Kumogakure, Homura had been killed. Grief-stricken, Mei couldnt bring herself to attend to her shinobi duties for about two weeks, until she got over the initial shock of his death. Soon, though, Mei found herself deep conflict within the inner workings of Yagura's political power. For about a year, he seemed to be acting differently...more irrationally and carelessly than he ever had been, so to speak. She found a few Jounin she could trust with her observations. One person in particular, Ao, shared observations exactly like hers. He had a feeling the Yondaime's erratic and continuously changing behavior suggested he was being influenced by a particular force.
It was soon revealed that many more higher-ranking Jounin, not unlike Mei herself, were noticing the same, and were starting to get inside the political standings of Kirigakure to try and get a closer look to what Yondaime Yagura was doing, or what was making him act. This group, soon self-named Yurai, soon began to form a political organization that had Kirigakures best interests at hand. Yagura had recently been sending countless people out on 'suicide' missions that they had almost no chance of completing, like sending typical Jounin out on Bingo Book runs and making careless transactions with other countries. He had to be stopped, and Yurai was going to do that. They did not want to full-out revolt against Kiri, so Ao and Mei, now one of Kirigakure's best Jounin, requested an audience with the village and political elders, feudal lords, Yagura and the Water Country's Daimyo.
Playing their speeches decisively, Ao then outright proved that Yagura was being manipulated, by revealing that he had a Byakugan that he had taken from the body of a Hyuuga he had engaged in battle with and killed. This unseated Yagura immediately, and caused strife in the leaders of the Water Country and Kirigakure. Yagura, under unknown circumstances, was killed when Sanbi was extracted from him and let loose. Mei was told that the Daimyo ordered the village leaders to do so. They had obliged, because in the state of shock they were in from this political corruption, they were almost brainless. However, they knew that one thing had to be settled: they needed a new Mizukage. Mei saw this as her chance, but she held her tongue. Ao became rather outspoken about the matter, he was a top candidate because of how he had unseated Yondaime Mizukage, despite him saying that the position wasnt for him. In the end, though, the feudal lords and Daimyo elected Mei as the Godaime Mizukage. She had the votes of Ao and many members of Yurai behind her. Since they were all high-ranking Jounin, their vote counted for something. Days later, a ceremony was held in Kirigakure and it was seen as a joyous day...the day Mei Terumi became the Godaime Mizukage.
KAGE YEARS :: Mei had fulfilled her parents' wish that she would become Mizukage one day, and she did so for the right reason. Not because she plowed down everyone in her way for power, but she did so with Kirigakure's best interests at heart. For two years now, she has been Mizukage, and in that time she promptly shut down Yurai, for it was no longer needed, and she stabilized Kirigakure's economic, military, and political balance. In her first year, she refined her Bojutsu, and began to polish some techniques she came up with for her Bo staff. She also stopped the ever-running fear of those with advanced bloodlines. She revealed to Kirigakure that she herself possessed not only one, but two Kekkei Genkei. Awed that someone so powerful could use power like this for good, she quickly won Kirigakure over and settled their fears. She made it a more peaceable nation, and learned about the inner workings, and how the other Great Nations held Kiri responsible for the start of Akatsuki. She was determined to change the other Kage's opinions of Kirigakure, because she was the Mizukage now, and Yagura's bloody rein had finally ended.
Kirigakure now had a new hope; Mei Terumi.
