Volkner listened to Alyssa as she pointed out his virtues. In reality, Volkner thought about these a lot. Really,he did. He loved to make sure they stood out and showed how powerful of a person he was. He'd worked his way to the person he was now. He'd worked so hard from being the bumbling fool of a boy born in his mother's household. He was no longer the little boy who broke his back every summer to provide for his family through physical labor and was passed by without a single glance. He'd changed that after meeting Volt. With Volt, a small Pichu at the time he'd changed. He'd vow to do his best, not be forgotten. He would be seen. He would be heard. He'd proved that by transforming Sunyshore into not just a silly little port side town that was known for its bumbling slow pace and helpful people. He'd worked with the newer generation by transforming the town into something worth being prided over. Into something that would be known all over Sinnoh and maybe even the world. Some had called Volkner ambitious. Volkner wouldn't have denied it. It was true he'd been full of ambition when he'd turned ten and taken a boat to the city of Sandgem Town to visit the well known Professor Rowan in hopes for advice to start his adventure and become even better than he was. He'd been exposed to technology then and gained a knack of it. Volt and him had made sure to delve in the technologic area of the world to gain even moer experience as they found themselves being drawn closer and closer to the power of electricity. He'd made his way until finally becoming Gym Leader. Volkner was still ambitious. He felt the need to still prove himself. He felt the need to show that he was better than people thought of him. He felt he had to upstage society. He had to show them they didn't know him at all, he'd always be just out of their reach when they started predicting him.
Volkner blinked when he realized he'd been spacing. "I'm glad you think so high of me, Alyssa." Volkner said with a small smile to show her his gratitude. He didn't smile often yes he knew this but it was just another tactic to keep off guard. It'd become more of a habit over the years. He didn't mean to attempt to decieve a dear freiend such as Alyssa, but due to Volkner's thinking previously the habit was starting to resurface along with the feeling of ambition.
"Alyssa. What if I used my good traits to help Lux in more than just a grunt. I'd be a good icon for Nox seeing as my position in Sunyshore... or maybe even a good icon for Sinnoh?" Volkner asked treading lightly incase what he was suggesting was becoming rude. But so far Volkner had seen nothing done in Nox. It seemed as if they weren't trying very hard to get their message across. Volkner wondered if he could dip a hand into changing that he let his answer sit as he sipped from his water and answered Kane's next question.
"I've dealt with locks. Well, more I've made locks. I've built gear locks and electrical locks. I know how to break them down and the sort when they're unlocked. Once they're locked I dont tend o fool with them." Volkner said. He'd never seen the need to fiddle with locked locks. He'd never found the need to get into people's private information before. Now however? He folded his hands and nodded for Alyssa to continue.
"I've built the lock and security systems that the Gym's are based off of. Not necessarily Unova's but once I get around to exploring the region I'm sure i'll be able to fiddle something even better." Volkner said with a arrogant grin.

Alyssa smiled back at her friend’s expression, pushing her emptied bowl of Miltank rice to the side, she sat back somewhat in her chair. The vegetables she’d ordered to go with her meal had come in a pile that was artfully designed, but not to her liking. She preferred her foods to be separated so that she could decide which she wanted to eat and how much at once. Sometimes she thought it would be best if restaurants simply left foods tossed however for their customers to organize them however they so choose, but on the same note that would give them practically zero points in the ‘display’ area of food presentation.
Gain a little lose a little…
Hoenn’s Leader looked up at Volkner as he spoke again and she listened carefully. Her eyes widened slightly before narrowing with something that could be called pleasure, albeit tinged with a dark light that presented itself as an uncharacteristically malicious grin upon her pale face. ”Volkner…” she murmured quietly. ”If you work your way to the top of Nox’s food chain in Sinnoh, although you don’t have very far to go as it is, you will have my support in addition to many citizens of Sinnoh, most particularly Sunyshore. It may be Lux-run, but I’m willing to bet you that at least half of the residents still feel more loyal to you than they do those tyrannical bastards.”
She smirked a bit and leaned back again, realizing she’d leaned forward to talk to her friend in a hushed tone. Spearing a group of the vegetables off of her side-dish plate with a fork and slid them off in her mouth against her tongue. It was good that Volkner knew at least something about locks. That would make the skill she was about to offer to teach him that much easier to impart onto him. His arrogance flashed and seemed as though it sparked through his entire body. She grinned some. That was the old Volkner she remembered when she’d first stepped through his doors to challenge him.
Another fork of vegetables and she was done. She’d eaten surprisingly quickly, yes, but she hadn’t gotten that much to begin with. Like most up-scale restaurants, the portion sizes tended to be pitiful for the price.
”I’m quite sure you’ll be able to surpass Unova’s lock designs.” she told him with a small smirk. ”As far as locked locks go…how would you like to learn how to ‘fool’ with them?” she asked mildly, using the term he’d first suggested in the conversation. ”I happen to be a better-than-average lockpick. Don’t ask where I learned, but just know that my teenage years were a bit more mischief-filled then I care to let many people know.” She gave him a bit of a sheepish smile and waited.

Volkner listened to Alyssa's words and felt his confidence in himself flare up. She was right, and as things were they couldn't very well leave Sinnoh leaderless. Someone needed to take the stand. Someone needed to guide Sinnoh, if no one did they would be lost. Alyssa had a point. If he reached out he could probably get even more than half of Sunnyshore to follow him. He could work on the other cities as well. He knew a good portion of the Gym Leaders had sided with Nox from the rumors that Volker had heard around.
"With the Gym Leaders following Nox as well that gives us an advantage..." Volkner said voicing his thoughts as he folded his hands and gave a thoughtful expression. With Alyssa's support it would help as well. The only thing that was holding him back was the thought of being in the spotlight. It would be dangerous and he would be a target for any Lux mercenaries. A dangerous mission indeed but the more Volkner thought about it the more the appealed to him. He was used to leading others no matter how bad his actions from the past all the people in Sunyshore knew that Volkner did everything he did out of the concern in his heart about the reputation in Sunyshore and the well being of the citizens. Sure there had been major blackouts but he'd made sure the citizens weren't too uncomfortable and his fiddling was only in the hopes to make them even more comfortable. He hadn't shared that view with anyone but it was the assumption of his actions in several citizens minds who didn't critic him on his methods and habits. Some called his electrical fiddling a hobby and Volkner simply gave him his cold shoulder and continued along his way.
Alyssa started on the topic of locks again and Volkner's attention focused on her again. 'Fool' with locks? Wasn't that illegal? Well... they were Nox now, League rules did not apply and considering from what he'd heard from guerilla's and spy's the skill would probably be a good one. Getting into locked buildings would even help during a skirmish if he needed a place to hold up or set traps for. Definitely a useful skill. Volkner bobbed his head up in down in a 'yes' motion.
"I think it would be something very useful you could teach me, Alyssa. What I've learned from you in the past has proven to be extremely useful in the past and I'm sure this lesson will be no different." Volkner said with a smirk referring to their first and last battle when she'd beat him and nearly destroyed his Gym with her bloody earthquakes. Volkner had stabilized the Gym much better since then and his team also knew how to fight against a good match of ground shaking and flying Earth. Except Proton. He was too bulky to be able to dodge the attack and come out unscathed. The others had several techniques they used. Ones they'd all learned based on Alyssa and Volkner's battle. Volkner wondered if the girl realized that he'd become a better trainer because of her. Chuckling he shook his head and focused on his main dish eating each small delicious fancy bite, savoring the taste for who knew the next time he could eat a good meal. Volkner's life of travel didn't allow for him to show up too many times in restaurants stuffing his face.

Alyssa had a sense of accomplishment today. She had offered her hand in supporting the rise of a new leader, forming an alliance that would last and hold strong when her friend gained equal rank to her. To think that she had one day been outranked by him with fear of being outclassed through battle, but over the course of a few years she’d surpassed him, now waiting for him to rise to her level. An alliance between Hoenn and Sinnoh could be useful… she mused silently, though paying attention to his few words and actions.
Today, she had made promises that she would see through to keeping until they were beyond completed.
His nod made her grin, and she quickly finished the vegetables off her plate as he ate as well. Their time together tonight was wrapping up. Depending on their schedules and Volkner’s determination to learn, they would be seeing each other very shortly. His words, though, made her blush slightly as they sank in. She weighed the possible courses of actions and words she could take now, and she decided further information about lockpicking, and possibly making a date for tomorrow, could wait.
”You flatter me, Volkner…” she said with a light laugh, folding the napkin from her lap to rest lightly on the now-empty plate before her alongside her fork. ”You’ve learned from me in the past?” she shook her head slightly, as though in disbelief. ”I learned more from you in our last battle than you learned from me, I’d be willing to bet. Heck, I was only an Ace Trainer then and you were a Gym Leader. You mean to tell me that you learned something from my – “ she searched for a word, ”—‘recklessness’ then?”

Volkner raised an eyebrow at Alyssa's questions. "Of course I've learned from you Alyssa. Thanks to you my Gym could be used as a bomb shelter." Volkner said saluting her with his glass and sipped on the water once again with a small chuckle. Volkner chewed over her words. Oh she was reckless. He'd heard the rumors. He heard about Olivine and the damage Alyssa had caused. Volkner chuckled a bit and nodded.
"Well you sure are reckless. I heard about Olivine you know. A bit about Village Bridge too." Volkner said with a raised eyebrow and a smirk as he chewed on the last of his Corphish platter. "I guess you could say I do have my reckless moments I learned from you." Volkner said with a teasing tone. He finished his platter and soup and set them aside as he looked at Alyssa. It was getting late and Volkner made a mental note to wrap up this meeting quick and get Alyssa on her way before night time hit and night time Lux started to pop out. He didn't doubt that she could handle herself, but volkner was worried more about the fact of unnessary attention and conflict.
"Where are your plans to go after this? Will you stay in Canalave? Or do you have somewhere already in mind to go?" Volkner asked sipping on his water once again.Volkner sipped on his water and considered where he should meet Alyssa.
"Alyssa... why dont we take a trip to Sunyshore tommorrow? What do you say? Maybe have our learning session where we first met? How's that for irony?" Volkner suggested with a coy smile. He was feelign the confidence in him and the feeling he would have as a youth.

Alyssa felt the hot flush of color that had begun to fade rise up again with a vengeance, coloring her usually pale cheeks with a crimson-tinged blush of even more embarrassment. She looked to the side and pulled her left hand off her lap and grabbed a strand of hair to fiddle with in an attempt to divert attention from her undoubtedly amusing expression.
Like any Electric-type specialist, Alyssa had assumed that he wasn't fond of Ground-type moves, let alone a series of Earthquakes raging through his Gym. However, she couldn't help but wonder if she'd gone a bit overboard? I guess I did if it could be used as a bomb shelter... she thought, before shrugging slightly to herself. Oops.
"Well, you sure are reckless..."
She jumped slightly and looked at him through her bangs, a bit of an indignant look on her face. What?! she silently objected. Still?! Although she had never been much of one for restraint, she had at least hoped that she'd gained more control over her battle style which often appeared more straightforward and offensive rather than tactical despite the fact it was both - a key to victory. Through the years, she and her pokemon had many sleepless nights training and bonding, but Alyssa had always made a point to split the power they held down the middle - half the true power within their hearts, half the power they used in battle. She had stressed to them to use the power in battle not to harm an opponent's pokemon too severely. Although that power itself was incredible, she always put a handicap on her pokemon.
Even in this time of war, that had not changed. Her pokemon had not changed.
However, she had.
At the mention of Olivine, Alyssa's expression darkened into something abnormal for her. Her wounded gaze dropped from her friend to the table before she tilted her head down, hiding her blue eyes behind her start white bangs. She didn't want to be reminded of what she'd done there, even through praise of admiring Nox members or from a friend like Volkner. He didn't know, though, how mention of her fights in the war shamed her. Not yet, at least. Forcing the downcast look aside and trashing the expression, she laughed slightly at his words. The Veteran Trainer couldn't help but grin. So, he'd learned how to be reckless from her? Well, maybe he's mre forward in battle now. she mused, looking up at him. I'd like to see how he's improved.
"I'm staying at the Harbor Inn..." she told him, gesturing over her shoulder in its direction. She blinked for a moment before continuing, having a small nagging thought telling her that he'd be concerned for her safety somehow. "I know it's supposedly 'haunted' and has been shut down for a long while, but it was open when I knocked earlier, surprisingly." She wouldn't admit that her curiosity got the better of her each time she passed it, resulting in her knocking. "A man opened the door and gave me a key to the inn and my room." She chuckled a little, "Don't worry about me. Ghost storeis don't scare me, and neither does the innkeeper, creepy as m=he may be. I have a feeling I'll be well-protected by my pokemon, even if Sinnoh's Legendary Darkrai decides to invade my dreams." Alyssa flashed him a cocky smile. "I'll just battle and capture it if it does."
Leaning back, Hoenn's Leader crossed her arms in a decisive manner that allowed no arguing. "Sunyshore tomorrow morning sounds like a plan. I hope you're ready to learn, battle, and maybe get chased out of the city for the time being..." she paused, letting possibilities as to why run through his mind. "...because we're going to break into your gym." She gave him a smile and waved the waitress over for the tab, which she placed on the table.
Extending her hand, Alyssa reached for it.
