This Mirage is Real Mirage Island
There was a thick fog settled over Route 130 on the early winter morning. It was cold, the sea breeze made sure of that. Normally one would expect the residents of the Hoenn Region to be in their houses still, at this hour. Alyssa closed her PokeNav after checking the time. It was barely six o'clock in the morning, and through the dense fog, the sunlight's first rays were completely hidden. The same could be said for her pokemon. The Veteran Trainer had found a relatively safe haven on the legendary Mirage Island. Surfing late last night from Pacifidlog to Mossdeep on Swampert's back had been tiresome, and she was lucky enough to see Mirage Island yesterday. She'd only been able to see it once or twice before in her life. It truly was a mirage indeed. She had spent the night in the cover of the dense trees that populated patches of Mirage Island, warm within her thick-layered sleeping bag.
The night had been restful, and she was up early as always. A few of the Wynaut scampering about had woken her up as they tread on leaf-litter and grass. She'd packed her belongings and released her pokemon, giving them free range of the island. She was alone as far as she knew, and she didn't know if anybody else would be able to see it today. She would quite possibly be the only one here. Alone with my pokemon... she enjoyed the thought. After Lecsi's death just a few days earlier, she felt as though she needed to grow more attached to her pokemon. The lack of true emotion she felt for her departed Kecleon aside from being distraught at the death of a pokemon - particularly hers - had shocked her, and shaken her to the core.
Daybreak was the first to leave Alyssa's presence after she told her pokemon that they could have a day to themselves if they so wished. Though keeping the link between their minds wide open, the Espeon had vanished into the fog after a moment's hesitation, and she was soon followed by most of Alyssa's other pokemon on hand - her Shelgon, Combusken, Swampert, Absol. Treecko, however, had opted to stay with his trainer, and was now perched upon her shoulder. watching her as she examined the rare Liechi Berries on the trees. It truly was a gift to be able to find so many fully-ripened berries, they would prove useful in battle.
I won't take too many, they're the food source of the local Wynaut...
Hoenn's Leader surpressed a yawn as she went about picking the first of the berries.
Come what may... she thought. ...whatever will come, and decide the path of today.

Sapphire was lucky, of that she had no doubt.
The brunette had been riding the tips of the waves on her Altaria ever since the both of them left Slateport for Pacifidlog Town, the two of them rising and falling with the ocean's movements. All it took was a single outstreched hand to touch the surface of the water. The salty spray had made the two of them quite damp, but neither minded -- they were going so fast, the water could barely be felt. Alto, though both kind and motherly, tended to become much more aggressive when it came to speed- and endurance-flying.
Once the pair of them had landed in Pacifidlog, an old man -- the old man, actually -- had run up to her bearing interesting news. "Mirage Island! It's here! Today!" Then he ran off, muttering something like 'it probably appeared last night' or something. Sapphire glanced at her Altaria, who was breathing heavily, then at the early-morning sky. The trainer doubted it was past six in the morning. Stroking the dragon pokemon's elegant neck, Sapphire thought for a while.
Mirage Island. An elusive island covered by fog, mentioned only in the tales and fables of Hoenn. Sapphire knew better, of course; she had been to the island before. Mirage Island was an entirely real place. Her only concern was whether or not her Alto could continue flying, considering the breakneck speed the two of them had been going at earlier. A soft croon from the cloud-like pokemon quickly convinced Sapphire otherwise. "Yer up fer some more flyin'?" she murmured, grinning as the Altaria snuggled against her trainer. "Alright, then. But we're gon' take it slower this time, 'kay?" The pokemon flapped her downy wings in consent.
Climbing onto the Altaria's back, the pair was once again back in the air -- much higher, this time. Alto remembered the way to Mirage island, the flying pokemon's navigational skills remaining true. A little while later, fog began to swirl around them. It wasn't a thick fog, unlike usual, but Sapphire knew that Mirage Island wasn't far now. "C'mon, Alto," she said encouragingly. Rubbing the pokemon's neck, the bird began to drop into a gentle dive. Land came into view in a few seconds, and the two of them spiraled down, landing with a gentle thump.
It took all of two seconds for Sapphire to realize there was someone else on the island -- the Wynaut were unusually agitated, and it seemed as if they had been agitated for a while before she and Alto had arrived. There were also strange noises throughout the island. "Sounds like pokemon," she mused. The only pokemon native to the island were Wynaut, and Wynaut certainly didn't make sounds like that.
"Let's go see, Alto."

Alyssa had disrupted Treecko from his perch upon her shoulder to remove her knapsack and place it at her feet. He had moved to sit (or rather, lay) upon her head on his belly, his yellow eyes intently watching her hands as they picked some of the berries and placed them in her bag. ”Treecko...” she addressed him. A small sound, comparable to a person’s ‘Hm?’ came from the Wood Gecko pokemon, and Alyssa held a rather small Liechi Berry up at eye-level for him. ”Try this...” she told the small pokemon. ”It’s called a Liechi Berry. This is a rather rare berry...Mirage island is the only place you can find them. This mysterious berry is rumored to contain the power of the sea.” Treecko shifted upon his trainer’s head and took the berry offered to him in his hands and bit down on it. She laughed lightly at a discomforted sound coming from him. ”I forgot to warn you...it’s a very hard berry...you have to gnaw it.” Treecko gave a small sound of protest before silencing. Alyssa quietly listened and soon heard the sound of his blunt teeth working away at the hard exterior of the berry.
Smiling, she went back to her work, being sure to leave plenty of berries for the Wynaut.
The red gem upon Daybreak’s forehead sparkled a plethora of colors, and the Psychic-type pokemon blinked her eyes open curiously. She had seen an arrival of person and pokemon, their intentions were unknown, but the Espeon sensed nothing malicious about them. She gently butted Swampert’s side with her head, causing the larger Mud Fish pokemon to look up as well, first at her, then in the direction she nodded, indicating that Alyssa was no longer the only person on the island. Nodding slightly, he stood, placing his large hands on the ground and moving forward on all fours, like Daybreak, through the fog.
Once they made their way through the low-hanging clouds, a young woman and her pokemon – an Altaria – came into view a number of feet off, though their figures still remained largely distorted. The pair of pokemon stopped and communicated quietly, Daybreak’s lighter voice of ‘Espee’s and Swampert’s deeper, more gutteral ‘Swam...Swampert’s carrying through the fog, sending some of the young Wynaut around scurrying away from them. With a small nod, Daybreak parted from Swampert’s side and ran for Alyssa, leaving her companion standing in view of the other trainer. He would not attack, but instead see to it that these two were no threat to his trainer.
After about a minute and a half of running through the fog, the Espeon found Alyssa, and the white-haired Veteran heard the Sun Pokemon’s telepathic voice within her mind. ”Another trainer?” Daybreak nodded. ”Show me.”
Picking up her bag and slinging it over her shoulder, Alyssa followed Daybreak carefully in silence for a moment, before deciing to call out quietly, ”Hello? Is somebody else there?”

There it was again. The sounds were slightly warped, but it was undoubtedly pokemon calls. Two of them, if her hearing was to be trusted. The higher-pitched voice was unfamiliar to Sapphire, but there was no mistaking the deeper grunt of a Swampert. The brunette turned to glance at the sound, taking note of the large, looming silhouette through the fog. Movement caught her attention, and Sapphire figured that it was the other pokemon running off -- most likely to alert whoever their trainer was of her presence.
The Altaria, calmly fluffing her wings, looked at the Swampert with interest. Alto could sense no animosity from the large pokemon, and it seemed as if Sapphire wasn't going to start anything just yet. The cloud-like pokemon stared at the other pokemon for another moment, then went back to preening and straightening her ruffled feathers. Sapphire stroked the bird's elegant neck in thought, putting a half-hearted guard up. It was a good sign that the Swampert wasn't attacking yet -- and even if it did, Sapphire knew her Altaria would be able to get the both of them out of there in a case of emergency.
"Hello? Is somebody there?
Sapphire raised an eyebrow. A girl? "Over 'ere!" she called, warily making her way through the dense clouds toward the voice. "Who's there?" The trainer paused for a moment, then added, "I'm not gon' fight or nothin'." Alto crooned in agreement, walking after her trainer. "If ya want us ta leave, we will." Sapphire held up her arms in a gesture of peace; for once, she didn't really want a conflict to occur.
Mirage Island was a peaceful place -- the Wynaut on it were adorable things, and Saph hated to see them agitated. It wouldn't have been fair to them if she got into a fight here. Sapphie would have willingly left the island if that meant keeping the Wynaut (and their precious Liechi berries) safe.

Alyssa had not expected her words to be met with silence, and she was glad when they were answered. The voice was unfamiliar to her and it belonged to that of a young woman, she was assuming. ”I don’t wish for you to leave so long as you have no malicious intent.” Alyssa answered the figure, whose silhouette was becoming more distinct through the morning fog as she approached. When the white-haired trainer came up beside Swampert, she placed a hand lightly on his tough blue skin. ”Seeing as you’re not here to fight, I have no qualms with you staying.” the Leader said with a small smile.
Treecko leapt off of her shoulder and landed lightly on Swampert’s head, munching on the Liechi Berry as her trainer left their side to approach the unfamiliar figure. The silhouette gained details as she approached, and the mystery behind the young woman’s identity was slowly revealed. Alyssa had to get about four feet from her before she was more discernible. The face and overall appearance registered immediately in her mind as someone she’d wanted to meet for years, ten to be exact.
Before Alyssa spoke, she heard the tall grass and bushes rustling and her other pokemon came running out. First Combusken and Absol, then followed by the slower-loping Shelgon, the great weight of his shell slowing him down compared to the other two pokemon. They must have sensed the arrival of another trainer and pokemon, and came running to see out of their own curiosity. They grouped around Swampert and Treecko, their curious eyes staring through the fog in the direction of the two trainers and two pokemon. Daybreak sat beside Alyssa’s heels when she stopped before the younger woman.
”You’re Sapphire Birch, aren’t you?” the smile threatened to widen by pulling at the sides of Alyssa’s mouth. ”I’m glad to finally have the chance to meet you…my name’s Alyssa Akiyama.” Holding out her hand, Alyssa figured she would go with the general introduction most people gave – a name and a hand shake.
