Two Days after the Battle of Village Bridge Alyssa is hospitalized due to her wounds and illness
The dripping of her IV was barely audible through the dull throbbing ringing in her head. She couldn’t concentrate on much outside of the realm of her own body. She could move, she was breathing, she was sick, she was in pain, but she was alive. That was all that mattered. The plunge into the icy water below Village Bridge at the command of her opponent had doused her with hypothermia, chilling her to the bone and making a rapid set-in of a cold that could easily turn into something worse. She was being monitored and given vitamin supplements to prevent anything worse from arising thanks to her condition. Her face, neck, and arms were all bandaged due to the burns she had received, and she had been ordered to sleep with an oxygen tank on (only for her time in the hospital, thank Arceus) to negate the damage done to her lungs because of smoke inhalation.
Her left arm, however, was worse than the rest of her body altogether. It had been burned, shot, and the length of her forearm had been slashed open on the back by her opponent’s knife when the fight had become a hand-to-hand one. The back of her left shoulder had been torn open in three large gashes from her side to her spine by a Braviary’s Crush Claw attack – the same one that had torn her from the back of her Salamence and plunged her into the water. Her heavily bandaged left arm was held in a sling and pulled against her body snugly with a She’d lost blood in the fight, and that coupled with hypothermic conditions spelled nothing good for the unfortunate victim of those circumstances.
The pain was muted in her brain thanks to the nearly intoxicating amounts pain medication and other medicines she was being dosed with, and she couldn’t move her good arm because it was not only currently stuck with the needle of an IV but to add to the equation she had a loyal Espeon wedged tightly between the rails of her bed and her body, with her arm pulled over the Sun pokemon and her hand between her forelegs. Daybreak appeared to be snoozing, and if she really was, Alyssa did not want to risk waking her.
Cracking open her eyes, Alyssa was greeted with lights that were turned all the way on to simulate the early afternoon light from outside. No way in hell was Hoenn’s Leader going to be given a room with a window – especially right after the war that had taken place not far from the bridge. Due to her actions two days ago there she would likely not be well-received by many. The guards stationed outside her door were to prevent any rash actions despite the fact her pokemon could protect her well enough.
Glancing across the room, she saw Weavile in his own little ‘bed’, the burns on his body being treated while he snoozed in a medically-induced sleep to pass through the worst of the pain for his burn treatments. There was a hood over the bed to keep fresh oxygen in it for him to inhale as well – a similar treatment to what his trainer was receiving through the night.
This day will be slow… Alyssa thought, exhaling slightly as Daybreak shifted next to her, the forked tail of the Espeon curling around her undamaged arm. And I’ll be here for a while…a few days at least.

A nurse screamed at him to slow down from his right side. He ignored her and pressed on, face anxious as he searched out the hurriedly inquired room of the person who's current condition he was anxious to know about. Exactly what had happened with Alyssa Akiyama in the past few months he had gone without seeing her? The last time they had met was in a bar. This time was in the hospital. Who knew?
He'd heard many things from those whiny, gossipy girls that populated Nox these days: Alyssa Akiyama had been involved in the village bridge battle as one of the sole winners, gaining the upper hand for Nox at the very end when all of the soldiers were worn out. Of course that was great - but he'd also heard other things as well. She was hurt, hurt bad; there were rumors that she had suffered some sort of shock from events that had occurred there and that her injuries were both physical and mental. Some even told him that she was dead. He gave a laugh, then regretted it a moment later as he ducked his head down and hurried on. She couldn't be dead: if she was dead he would be visiting the funeral home instead of the hospital, right? Right?
Her room wasn't that hard to find, honestly: there was a guard positioned out there with a huge gun slung in hand, after all. He halted, breathing heavily as he put out a hand to stop him. "I'm here to visit her." He got out between small breaths, pointing into the room. "Tell her...tell her its Gold." The man gave him a suspicious look, then backed into the room to call out - the trainer noticed that the gun remained outside and at ready, of course - and after a moment's pause the head resurfaced, and a single gesture made it clear that he could go in. Gold gave a grin and pushed on through, the guard still casting him a rather dirty look over his shoulder but he ignored it, only focused on getting into the room whatever the cost and slammed open the door a little bit too loudly. But hey, he was worried - he had that excuse.
"Alyssa!" He gasped, closing the door as quickly as possible to avoid the guard that was already turning around, startled at the sudden movement. "Are you okay?" How long had it actually been? How long had she been sitting in her room that afternoon, semi-conscious to the world around her before opening her eyes slightly? The light burned and made her want to go back to sleep. The thought was alluring, actually, but she knew she needed to stay awake lest she fall into a similar state as Weavile for an unknown amount of time. She needed to get back to Hoenn, defiitely, but before that she needed to get out of the hospital. In her current condition she was nowhere near the point where she could do that with a doctors’ permission.
The events that had taken place at Village Bridge were anything but a blur to her. She could see every moment in her mind. If she concentrated hard enough she thought could feel the burns that had blistered her skin, the gunshot that had penetrated her arm, the knife that had cut through her as though it was a hot knife slipping through butter, and the cold splash that had doused her. It was like she could re-live it if she thought hard enough. She didn’t want to, but it invaded her dreams, just as the events of the battle had.
Her Earthquakes had shattered rock within the bridge and visibly cracked it. The fights raging around her had set fire to the houses and other parts of the bridge, and the rubble beneath the bridge indicated that explosives had been used as well. So much damage was wrought for victory. She was a keystone figure in the damage, she knew. Most people would blame the worst harm that befell the bridge on her for the Earthquakes, even though that was only an equally contributing factor as the other fights that had raged.
So much destruction...
She thought of the three trainers she’d thought. How two had pokemon that had died in the heat of battle right before her eyes. Both deaths had been unintentional – one had been a small pokemon that Alyssa could simply look at and see that it wasn’t battle-fit. The other...it had been her opponent’s mode of transportation. When she instructed King to use Ice Beam, she never saw the outcome in the range of possibilities she had thought of.
Death.
That was the last thing on her mind. She would never aim to kill a pokemon. Ever.
When it had crashed before her...Alyssa closed her eyes and shook the thoughts away. She was slipping back into it. Stop it! she told herself weakly, opening her eyes once again at the sound of a voice. The guard stationed outside her door had poked his head in, a stern look on his face.
”There’s a ‘Gold’ here to see you?” Alyssa could tell he was willing to shoot if she didn’t recognize the name. Luckily, her brain wasn’t so sluggish as to force her to hesitate.
”Let him in, and leave us in private.”
What seemed like only a heartbeat laterthe door burst wider open and the young man she hadn’t seen in months flew through, practically skittering to a halt by the foot of her bed before swinging around and closing the door so they could be left in peace and their conversation would be contained from the outside.
She managed to give the young man a weak grin, although his presence made her curious – for what reason had he come? Surely not just a simple visit? Had papers about the battle been published already? [i}Probably...Lux stays on top of that....
[/i] ”Hey, Gold...” she said quietly, the grin fading in to a weak smile. She glanced down at Daybreak, who had picked her head up and half-flattened her ears. ”It’s alright..” Alyssa murmured to the pokemon, who laid back down, though kept her eyes open to watch Gold suspiciously. ”...I’ve been better...” she told him, glancing at the sling and IV before shrugging, wincing as she realized that was a bad idea from the pain. She’d probably be interrogated for details by the young man. ”What are you doing here...?” Unova was a long way from Johto or Hoenn...he must have had to run like the wind to get here so soon after the Battle. Of course, all of this did nothing to stifle his worry about the situation whatsoever - Alyssa looked more or less like the rumors he had heard, and while he was glad to arceus that she wasn't dead, her injuries looked pretty serious. Village Bridge was one of the battles that he had missed out on - he'd asked and nagged the 'higher ups' to let him battle, but after the defeat at Dragon's Den he supposed that it would probably be better if he had sat this one out. And yet, was it really the best idea? He had to wonder, would it have done any good whether he had been there or not? Battles were usually fought solo, one on one duels: perhaps Alyssa wouldn't have been anywhere near him when...whatever it was that had happened to get her into the hospital had happened. He felt kind of reluctant to ask too, for some odd reason: Gold usually had no trouble broaching these sorts of subjects but this time he felt a bit off. Strange.
She had spoken in response to his question, yes: the trainer fidgeted anxiously on his toes as he waited for her to finish, eyes trailing up and down the advanced hospital gear that surrounded her, slightly unnerved at what sort of opponent - or pokemon, in this case - she had been facing to give her wounds like such. Part of him wanted to speak out, ask her about what had happened but the feeling in his gut refused to go away and it wasn't until Alyssa asked of his purpose for being there that he finally found one, grasping it tightly and making the most out of such - as only Gold Harberlein could, of course. "Well, y'see..." He began slowly, drawing out his words as if in an attempt to ward off the memory of those horrible, whiny voices that whispered gossip through the Nox headquarters, spreading the rumors like nobody's business. "I heard some things about what happened in the battle." A short pause as he drew in breath, narrowing his eyes slightly at the sling, wondering what had happened to cause that. "Nobody I know, 'course. But then your name came up. I had to check if what they were saying about you was true or not." He left out the part about how two of his pokemon had helped him get to Unova in the quickest way possible - Flare to get them out of Hoenn and into Sinnoh, and Oracle to take him the rest of the way. They never let him down, he proved it by standing there in such little time after he had departed.
Truth be told, he hadn't heard everything about her from the grapevine; rumors here and there weren't to be trusted fully and he was quite certain that if that had only been by word of mouth, the most to do would be to send her a quick text, check if she was alright sort of thing. But when he saw the news, printed there in bold headlines, Gold drew the line. News never lied. Ever. They were biased, yes - especially when written by Lux - but they only held facts. The paper, a few thin sheets stacked up on top of each other, currently rested in his backpack, stuffed with all the other things that he never really did use in his every day routine. If Alyssa asked for it, he had it at ready, but the Johto trainer was much more interested in knowing the events of the battle than he was of the paper. New never really did interest him that much, unless they involved battle reports.
"So.." He spoke with a different tone this time, golden eyes darkening slightly with a serious air about him. "What happened? I mean, the news didn't say much, but that must've been some brawl, huh? I mean, if you're comfortable with telling me, that is." The last part was added on rather tackily, and he broke off, letting the words hang there in the silence of the air. That didn't sound like they had...anything going, right? Not really a relationship, per say - just a concerned friend, nothing more. It took the younger Nox member a moment until he responded. Since the door slammed between the time he spoke and she did, leaving the silence after her words quieter than it originally seemed before Gold had burst in. Alyssa could sense that he was thinking, though about what she didn’t have a clue. Clearly there was a reason for him being here – visiting her in the hospital because of her injuries was an obvious, but she felt there was something more - something that had driven him to come all this way in two days. It’s sweet of him. she thought, smiling slightly as he mumbled a rather poor attempt at starting to explain.
‘Things’ about the battle? She didn’t know what all there was to the battle other than it happened. People died, pokemon died. They got injured as well, she and Weavile were prime examples of that. Destruction was caused – the Bridge fell victim to the power of pokemon and trainers working in unison. Fighting on the front lines was quite something, really. In her time there, Alyssa had been able to witness many great combinations, and some not so great that wound up costing others a battle. However, that wasn’t what she should be focusing on.
These drugs are getting to my head.. she thought wearily. I can’t focus on one topic for too long.
The fact that her name being mentioned in things being said had driven him here proved to her that he came out of concern. She nodded slightly to his words and waited for the second silence to pass. The next time he spoke, it was a different tone. It was more serious – weighed down with the mood that encompassed his voice. ”Of course I’ll tell you...” the white-haired Leader murmured. ”You want to know what happened?”” she inquired lightly, already knowing the answer full well.
”You might want to take a seat...” straightening a little, she looked around. There was no chair in her room, seeing as she hadn’t expected any visitors. ”...er...sorry there’s no chair. But...” Alyssa scooted slightly to the side, opening more room on the side of her bed. ”You can sit there, in front of Daybreak if you want.” The Espeon’s large ears flicked slightly. ”She won’t do anything to you. Just be sure not to sit on her.”
The bars that bordered the entire bed to make sure she didn’t fall out had been lowered one-quarter of the way past the head, to allow for others to easily interact with her. He’d be able to sit on the bed easily enough.
”The Battle of Village Bridge was...quite something. I faced three opponents...each one with an increasing degree of intensity and danger for myself and my pokemon...it’s definitely not something I’ll forget any time soon.”

[atrb=width,500px][atrb=border,0px,true][atrb=vAlign,top][STYLE=border-right: 120px solid #4a4d5a; text-align: justify; padding: 0px 10px 20px 0px;font-size: 10px]There was something oddly chilling about being in a hospital - perhaps it was the fact that he had never been to one that he felt this way, Gold told himself. It was, after all, true that the places he usually went after falling out of trees or fighting a dangerous sort of battle with his friends was home, where his mom usually took care of all his wounds then and there. His injuries, thankfully, hadn't been enough to send him to a hospital, or even a doctor, to say the least and now that he was experiencing such a place for himself Gold thanked arceus that it wasn't the case.
Alyssa was talking to him again: the trainer forced himself to focus as he drew his gaze away from the white wall in front of him and back to Alyssa, nodding a slight bit at her obvious rhetorical question as he took a step closer, still standing until she gestured for him to sit down. Gold gave a slow nod, taking an almost hesitant step forward before he remembered that Gold Harberlein didn't do things like that, in which case he took two confident strides forward and situated himself comfortably on the side of the bed, balancing precautiously to give Alyssa enough room so he wouldn't accidentally nudge her or something while also taking care not to touch Daybreak. "This is fine." He replied in response to her statement, grinning widely - even if it was a bit for pretense on the outside.
She began as a sort of introduction of sorts that didn't help his current concern for her - Gold felt that the bare white walls of the hospital were still unnerving, almost as if they were closing in on him from all sides. Arceus, Gold! He punched himself in the chin - quite literally, though it was a light and hidden one - and told himself to calm down and listen to her story. Even though she had started off simple, in those few sentences he could tell that what was yet to come wasn't to be anything good. He was still uncertain about asking her to continue, afraid that she would tell him things that she herself wasn't all too comfortable in recalling. He shook his head for a moment, eyes narrowing. No, this was something that he had to know, otherwise he would always stay his old self; outgoing, headstrong, but completely unaware of anybody's emotions other than his own. He didn't want to be selfish again.
"Go on." The trainer prompted lightly, staring off somewhere behind him before turning his golden gaze back on the Hoenn leader.[/style][STYLE=float: left; width: 380;border: 3px solid #4a4d5a;width: 100px; height: 100px;][/style][STYLE=float: left;width: 250px;padding-left: 10px;font-size: 10px]Notes: i felt awkward typing this, i'm sorry if it looks all choppy and stuff. ;W; Word count: 464 Tagged: alyssa ! template by pianissimo of btn[/style][STYLE=color: #4a4d5a; font-family: georgia; font-size: 40px; letter-spacing: -5;line-height: 23px;margin-right: 5px;float: right;width: 120px;text-align: right;]how can i be brave when i'm afraid to fall[/style] |

Gold seemed to fidget after taking his seat, and Alyssa hoped that he hadn’t made himself uncomfortable by inquiring about more of the battle than he’d undoubtedly heard. She found herself briefly considering the minor dilemma she was in – caught between not wanting to discomfort the younger trainer and witness him squirm because of her words, or tell him the truth. He was an adult, correct? If he asked for the truth, he was expecting it, even if he didn’t consciously acknowledge the fact. He sought it out, and she would give him what he wanted, give or take a detail or two here and there.
With the small prompt, she continued.
”It was practically my first time in Unova in ages. I went there once before years ago to only conquer their Gyms and gain the Badges required for entrance to their League. Aside from that, I’d stayed out. When I got word Nox was heading to Unova to get the edge on Lux in that department, I journeyed there myself a short while ahead of the Battle. However, it came upon me quicker than I’d anticipated. The forces of Lux and Nox clashing over Village Bridge was something I knew I had to lead seeing as I was the only person there for Nox with a position of power higher than Guerilla.”
She sighed slightly, glancing at Daybreak who had curled up, her back to Gold with her wide, violet eyes staring intently at Alyssa as she heard the re-telling once more. ”I had to seize the reins in a Region that I’m unfamiliar with.” The Veteran Trainer looked back up to Gold, ”My first opponent was a young woman named Leaf…one of the famous trainers from Pallet Town, Kanto...just as you are famous in Johto.” Her head tilted slightly as she remained staring at the young man sitting on her bed. ”Perhaps you’ve encountered her? Or at least heard of her?” though the chance was slim, Alyssa gave it some possibility due to the fact their home Regions were connected and shared the Indigo League.
She continued, though, before he could give much more than a nodded response or a shake of his head. ”That battle went swiftly…Weavile made perfect use of Swords Dance three times and a crippling Ice Punch to the Bird Pokemon – it fainted after the second punch, despite the fact it had healed itself somewhat between attacks. Her Raichu, on the other hand, was more of a pain. Using Agility to make it faster before casting off electric attacks….I attempted to stop it at the beginning of a battle with an Earthquake from Gallade, but the Raichu used teamwork with the Pidgeot to situate itself off the bridge and remain unaffected by the attack. A second Earthquake, though, got it, and Leaf was forced to retreat.”
Alyssa’s gave strayed across the room to Weavile, who lay in his aerochamber, still with the peaceful, medically-induced sleep he had been in for the past day. ”Weavile…” she murmured, ”…was incredible at the Battle, although…I thought I was going to lose him in my second battle…”
She swallowed, choking back the thought and fear that swam up inside her at the thought. ”…I almost did.” Daybreak rose from her position laying on the bed before brushing against Alyssa, her soft voice almost like a purr to calm her trainer down and attempt to get her back on track. She would probably do this numerous times – depending on how deep the psychological wounds from her battles cut.

[atrb=width,500px][atrb=border,0px,true][atrb=vAlign,top][STYLE=border-right: 120px solid #4a4d5a; text-align: justify; padding: 0px 10px 20px 0px;font-size: 10px]Her introduction of the situation made sense: truthfully, the young man hadn't had the interest to wander outside of Johto until the war broke out. Why was there a need to, when all of his friends, all of his fame and glory was there? Why was there a need to leave and go to another region when he was familiar with the landscape, knew every nook and cranny of every town like he knew the back of his hand? No, to go outside of Johto and venture to an unfamiliar town was unnecessary, it was a useless exert of energy that wasn't worth his time nor was it worth the effort of going there and back, only to experience various shortcomings along the way that really wasn't worth the apathy that he felt in visiting a place where no one knew of his name at all. Now that the war had taken almost all of Johto away from the rightful care - one of the people - he'd moved to Hoenn temporarily, to escape the place where he was almost certain to get persecuted one day. But outside of those two regions, he'd been nowhere, not a foot past the border into Kanto or Sinnoh and definitely not Unova. it was either very unfamiliar and confusing or it was frightening, but Alyssa didn't strike him as the latter so he stuck with the first. These thoughts, however, were kept in his head as he listened to her speak, refraining from interrupting.
"I've heard of her, yeah." It was only when she asked him a question that he responded, recalling in the back of his mind that there had been a time, perhaps a brief time when he was battling Red that he had heard the champion utter her name, knew she was in some way connected with him but nothing more. However, anyone that knew the champion personally enough to have him speak her name out loud was not something that he overlooked, especially when he'd lost by a hair to the trainer. In fact, he'd planned on wandering over to Kanto and asking her about some tips to beating her 'friend' when all of this had broken out. It was quite funny how things worked out in the end, really.
Perhaps it was accurate to say that the first words had hardly left his lips before he was overlapped by her speaking again. Though it was a bit hard, he finished his sentence anyways, quickly letting the words flow before shutting his mouth and listening to her description of the battle with a small ghost of a smile that was still masked with worry. She talked like Weavile had done great in the battle as well as her gallade - and indeed, they probably had - but there was a catch: he knew even if not for the plain fact that the pokemon was in this very room, injured quite badly. He could feel the invisible words on her lips, ready to come out with time. And they did. They eventually did.
However, the words were so vague and general that he couldn't decipher her meaning, and seeing only the result laid out in front of him he couldn't help but wonder, sitting there in defense. "...What happened?" He muttered after a moment, sensing that it was going to be hard to relate exactly what had happened for her pokemon to end up the way he was now. After Daybreak sensed her trainer come out of the temporary mental pit she’d fallen into, the Espeon sat close to her Trainer’s side, gazing at her intently, keeping her psychic senses tuned closely into Alyssa’s mind. If she felt her trainer’s stability sway again she would attempt to draw her back, if for no other than the sake of the guest with her. ”My second opponent was harder to defeat…” Alyssa murmured, suddenly breaking the silence that had fallen between them. It was as though she’d been staring into nothingness and was jolted out of her trance back to reality. ”…he tried to arrest me on the spot. My bet would be that he’s one of Lux’s disgusting Sentinels. He promised me a fair trial if I came silently but…no way in hell would I do that.”
Hoenn’s Leader swallowed, placing her hand on her Espeon’s side, the soft, velvety fur brushed flat beneath her fingers. ”He did not agree to a traditional battle – one using only pokemon. Nothing else. I didn’t expect him to in the least, but Leaf had agreed, so I figured it was worth a shot.” a cold chuckle escaped her lips. ”Just my naïveté springing up at a most unhelpful time.” She drew a quiet, though shaky, breath. ”That battle was more challenging…not in the way of tactics and what techniques to use, but because we…” she was speaking for both herself and her pokemon, ”… had to dodge bullets as well as techniques.”
Glancing at Weavile, she looked down at the bedsheets before looking at Gold. ”The battle was on the ground and on the roof of a house. The battle on the ground was…easier to control than the one on the roof of the house. I couldn’t split my attention that far apart, only command Weavile – who went to the roof – what to do beforehand and hope for the best. I guess that hope was empty, though.” The image of the roof crumbling into the house which it belonged flashed in her mind again. ”Flygon lit the roof on fire. I thought Weavile would be off of it before long or the fire spread too far. I was wrong. Out of the blue, the roof collapsed and both my opponent’s pokemon and Weavile fell inside of the burning house.”
She paused, thinking of how to word what she said next. ”The opponent set his Feraligatr on me on the ground. I had Flygon attempt to stall it by using Solarbeam in the direction of both it and its trainer. It missed the trainer and Feraligatr, and one of his extra pokeballs fell from his belt and revealed itself. It…it was something from Unova.” Alyssa swallowed, her voice quieting slightly. ”It was tiny, and helpless-looking. It took the full brunt of the Solarbeam and…it’s short life ended quickly.”
Mentioning the death of that pokemon was bad enough, it made her visibly gag, cringing as well. She placed an arm over her stomach from where her bruised ribs screamed with protest at the motion. ”I worked as fast as possible to get Weavile out of that house. I’m assuming my opponent did as well. I distracted him with Aggron.” she shuddered a bit. ”After the death of the pokemon, the rest…the rest is a blur.” She lost the forced smile and a voice of empty relief. ”Weavile was burned badly, and suffered great amounts of smoke inhalation. He’s also terribly bruised. That’s why he’s in there.” she nodded to the aerochamber. ”He needs cleaner air for treatment now.”
Alyssa pointed to the bandages on her face, mostly covering the right side of it save for an opening for her eye. Three strips extended across her nose and down her left cheek as well. ”These are for burns. So are the bandages on my arms, for the most part.” She swallowed. ”This arm,” she made a feeble attempt to shrug her left shoulder. That was a big mistake. Pain ripped through that side of her body and she flinched visibly. ”…is in a sling for other things that happened in my third battle.”
