2 days after the Battle of Olivine
Rain poured down on Alyssa’s back as she approached Pastoria City. As soon as she’d started coming near the city from the east, it was as though the sky decided to open and begin its torrential downpour upon her back. Just ahead of her own body, Flygon shook his head, his green antenna flicking from side to side as he re-directed his focus on the ground as he began to aim downwards for a landing. She’d been flying on his back for a long while. The fly from Hoenn to Sinnoh was one for the record books. They’d only made a few stops along the way in their journey on small beaches in the middle of the ocean. Flygon must be exhausted… Alyssa thought, her pale face being pulled into a frown, the expression reflected in her eyes. Her Pokémon was determined, and she was grateful for that. He deserved a rest. Once we arrive at the Pokémon Center, I bet everyone could use a small break…no doubt there‘s a free corner where they could all come out… she thought, smiling despite the rain.
She felt her stomach flip a bit as Flygon angled more sharply downwards towards the mainland, the humming of his wings creating a soothing sound in spite of the sudden descent. Moments later, her Pokémon righted himself, hovering above the ground so she could dismount. Hopping off of his back easily, she sighed and looked up at him. His eyes remained clear thanks to the protective red lenses, but within them she could see his tiredness. ”Flygon, return…” she said softly, holding out his pokeball. The dragon Pokémon vanished within a few seconds, leaving Alyssa standing alone in a city she’d not visited in a long while. Ducking indoors, she stood, dripping wet at the entrance. Well…I suppose it could be worse… she thought, shaking her head, sending water flying everywhere off of her white hair.
Walking to the far corner from the door, Alyssa took a seat in the chairs, sighing audibly as she collapsed on the comfortable cushions. Sure, it wasn’t anything like home, but she could settle for it. Sitting forward after a moment, she dropped her bag to the ground and pulled out a towel, draping it over her hair to begin drying it off. ”I bet everyone’s hungry…” she murmured to herself, pulling out a box with food for her Pokémon that she’d brought from home. She thought it best to keep the number of Pokémon out at one time to a minimum because of the others seeking refuge at the center, so she decided to release two at a time to feed them.
”Daybreak, Weavile…come eat…” she said quietly, opening two pokeballs to reveal the Espeon and Weavile, respectively. Daybreak immediately leapt into her lap and stretched upwards, softly licking the water that was dripping from Alyssa’s face. ”Thanks girl…” Alyssa said with a soft smile, looking down at her beloved friend. Opening the box, she held her hand out, flat for Weavile to take his pick of food. The long, hooked claws reached forward before delicately picking up a piece and bringing it to the owner’s mouth. ”Weave, weave!” his joy was apparent as he tasted the food, before eating each morsel more quickly than before, closing his eyes to savor it.
Alyssa smiled.
Even if she was soaking wet, she would be happy so long as her Pokémon were.

PLEASE NOTE: the post that should bebelow was ... a derp on Magma's part. He was modifying his post for the template to re-post, but accidentally hit "post" instead of copy-pasting. This post contained introductions, as well as Ruby getting up to hand Alyssa a towel

A small smile pulled at Alyssa’s lips as she watched her normally aggressive – in a protective manner – Weavile eat some of the food he had been offered. He nibbled it with closed eyes, but Alyssa could tell simply from the angle she was looking at him, and the slight tug at the corners of his mouth that he was enjoying himself, even if he tried to hide it. The tough act Weavile puts up whenever he encounters a stranger is rather endearing… Alyssa thought, tilting her head down a bit as Daybreak continued to lick water off her face. But only I know that with time you can get through to even the iciest hearts, like his was…
She recalled the time he had first encountered him, in the Northernmost area of Sinnoh, just south of Snowpoint City. The blistering cold had almost given her frostbite, and forced Daybreak to retreat to her pokeball. The thin fur of the Sun pokemon did her no justice in absurdly cold weather like that. In fact, her trainer probably could have died were she stupid enough to stay out there any longer than she did in the middle of the blizzard. However, she was driven to stay by one thing and one thing alone – the prospect of catching a Sneasel. She knew that because of their type, they were weak to a wide range of techniques from other pokemon, but if she trained it right, she’d be able to use a Weavile in the most sticky of combat situations.
Her hard work, dedication, and hypothermia had paid off in the end now with the Weavile she was watching before her. She wouldn’t trade any of her pokemon for any sum of money…that was for sure…she loved them all far too much. Alyssa’s attention was drawn quickly back to the present from her flashback as she felt the movements of Daybreak’s tongue cease. Glancing up through her white bangs, Alyssa saw Weavile had frozen, with his back towards what he was looking at out of the corner of his eyes. His lip was curled and Alyssa could hear a small growl sounding from his chest. Looking up, Alyssa saw what had caused such a reaction from her pokemon.
It was a trainer. Not just any trainer, either. He was familiar, and his face instantly rang a bell in her mind.
”Sorry to bother you, but have we met before? You seem familiar..”
Alyssa was automatically taken by surprise, was he a surprisingly ballsy Lux agent? She couldn’t know for sure, but...she knew why he might have been almost immediately after her brain processed the line of thought. Before her was Ruby...one of the people that helped save Hoenn from the selfish actions of Team Magma and Team Aqua. She’d only ever heard him called Ruby, and they had brushed paths once or twice in the past. But, she also knew of him because of his father.
It took her a moment to find her voice when she spoke again, this time noticing the towel held outstretched in his hand. She gave him a small smile and extended her hand, taking the towel. ”Thank you....” she said, as she laid it in her lap next to Daybreak. Taking off her cap, she let her long white hair fall out of it and flip against her back, wetting her shirt even more. She picked the towel up and placed it on her head, looking at him gratefully as she began to off-handedly dry her hair.
”You’re Ruby, arent you?” she asked calmly, smiling some. ”Norman’s son?” Espeon jumped off her lap when she shifted to dry the other side of her head. ”I think we’ve crossed paths a couple of times in the past...but we never officially met, if I recall...”
He has to be Nox... Alyssa thought, reasoning with herself. Why would Ruby...who was well-known through not just Hoenn but the whole world for his help to stop Magma and Aqua...come so openly into Nox territory if he were Lux, without bothering to hide his identity in any way?
”My name’s Alyssa...” she said quietly, glancing down at Daybreak, who had approached him. She seemed to trust him well enough to approach him already, while Weavile remained tense, and inched a bit further away, turning so he could stay watching him. Calm down, Weavile....I doubt he’ll do anything... she nonverbally told her Sharp-Claw pokemon. ”Alyssa Akiyama.” she said, holding her smile. Nodding slightly towards Daybreak, who was sniffing at his pantlegs, she decided it best to introduce the purple Sun pokemon. ”The nosy one is Daybreak...and don’t let Weavile bother you...he acts worse than he is.”
She remained still for a moment before jumping up quickly, realizing where he had walked over from. ”Oh, gosh!” she said, her voice slightly more high-pitched with the embarassed realization. ”Did I get water on you when I walked in?” She bowed twice in quick succession to emphasize the apology. ” I’m so sorry...!”
~Espee…Espeon!~ It was a friendly greeting from Daybreak, who now looked up at Ruby, giving him the closest to a smile that an Espeon could, her forked tail flicking happily, as though she were trying to calm her trainer’s sudden onset of worry with her friendly nature to the new trainer.

He was growling, obvious at Ruby, but he didn’t mind. He didn’t get a lot of friendly welcomes often, so he was used to it. In fact, he gave the Weavile a smile after the girl took the towel and thanked him. Ruby simply nodded and watched the girl dry herself off. Suddenly, she addressed him. His name and father. All was correct. And he stood there baffled. He nodded after she finished talking and spotted her Espeon coming towards him.
It’s a pleasure to meet you, Alyssa. You, apparently, know me already so that saves me time.
Ruby let out a little laugh when the Espeon inched closer and closer. Her Weavile, on the other hand, inched further away. Ruby got down on one knee and began to pet her Espeon. He had a smile the whole time.
It's nice to meet you too, Daybreak. And don’t worry about it. It wouldn’t be the first time, believe me.
His attention then went to the Weavile.
As for your Weavile there, I think Jet would like to meet him. After all, I see no harm in that.
Ruby reached into his bag and pulled out a pokeball. Pressing the center button, he opened it and released Jet, his own Weavile. Jet shook himself, being free from the confined space and locked his gaze on the other Weavile. His head tilted for a moment before turning to look at Ruby. Jet pointed at the other Weavile and gave his trainer a questionable stare.
No battle, Jet. Just say hi.
That little exchange might confuse Daybreak and Alyssa, but Jet looked back at the other Weavile and nodded.
Sorry about that. He doesn’t usually bring me out unless it’s a battle. However, it is nice too see another Weavile after two years of travels and battles. My trainer calls me Jet. Do you have a name?
To Ruby, Jet’s words were nothing but repeating his name back and forth. With some “Wea” and “Vile” for short. Ruby watched him and chuckled after he finished.
Didn’t know he was such a talker. As for Daybreak, I have a Flareon it might like to meet. But…
He pointed to the PC in the corner of the other side of the room.
It’s in storage. So, Alyssa, what other pokemon do you have?

Ruby seemed rather unbothered by her urgent apology, so she relaxed a bit. Hopefully he wasn’t all too disturbed by the fact that she splashed water on him – albeit unintentionally – when she first entered the pokemon center, if he had been within the range of the flying droplets. She slowly sat back down from her series of quick bows and resumed drying her hair off. The clothes she could deal with if they were wet, but if her hair was wet…she’d learned from past experience that it almost promised a cold. Glancing up at him, she could tell by his expression that he was close to baffled that she knew as much as she’d provided about him. He recovered quickly, though.
”It’s a pleasure to meet you, Alyssa. You, apparently, already know me so that saves me time…”
Alyssa had found in the past that if you at least knew something about someone, introductions were a lot easier, and often ran smoother than if she was meeting someone for the first time. She wouldn’t necessarily consider herself ‘good’ with people, but she got by…even if introductions seemed to have a tendency to get a bit awkward.
She watched as he crouched onto one knee and began to pet Daybreak. Her Espeon’s tail flicked back and forth happily, and her voice was being muffled by her throat in a sound that could almost be compared to a purr. Alyssa couldn’t help but smile at the sight. Since war had broken out, she’d rarely let Daybreak travel by her side anymore like she used to simply to protect her. The sensitive Psychic pokemon had also grown a bit more distressed as time wore on with the war. Alyssa’s pokemon, like their trainer, disliked war.
Glancing at her Weavile as the trainer acknowledged him, Alyssa saw Weavile’s lip relax from the curled growl it had been maintaining for the past minute or so. He seemed to know that he was being discussed at the time, and his curiosity got the better of him. He finished nibbling the small square of food he had taken from Alyssa and swallowed it, brushing his hooked claws across his mouth as the unfamiliar –to him, at least- trainer released a pokemon after digging around in his bag for a moment.
He has a Weavile too? Alyssa thought as the energized form of the Sharp-claw pokemon materialized. A small exchange that Alyssa couldn’t fully understand passed between the trainer and pokemon. However, the other Weavile – apparently named ‘Jet’ – looked to her own Weavile. She hoped that Weavile’s nature wouldn’t get the best of him and see the arrival of another Weavile prove means for a battle.
Jet spoke, and it took a moment before Weavile decided to respond, apparently being careful about the situation and thinking before he moved. He was getting better at that.
~Vile…Weave….Wea-Weave…Wea…Weavile~
”I am always called to battle or to eat. It is rare I’m called just to be out and about. My trainer thought it best I stay with Weavile. I do not see other Weavile often, Jet…”
Alyssa blinked in surprise when Weavile actually responded. She glanced at Ruby in surprise, who seemed to share somewhat of a similar reaction of his own Weavile. She glanced at the PC when he pointed to it, and nodded a bit.
”That’s the most I think I’ve heard Weavile say…” she said, chuckling slightly. Espeon turned to the side and arched her back against Ruby’s hand, flicking her forked tail across his arm. ”And Daybreak seems to really like you…” she smiled a bit. She didn’t see Daybreak take to people so immediately very often. It reminded her of when war hadn’t settled over the world.
”As for my other pokemon…” she said, pulling herself out of slight distraction by looking at him. Glancing down, she pulled her shirt out of the way and placed her hands on the two empty pokeballs that belonged to Daybreak and Weavile…a Poke Ball and a Luxury Ball respectively. ”I have these two, then Amon, an Absol…” she moved her hand over an Ultra Ball, ”…Swampert…” she moved her hand over another Poke Ball, ”…Cannon, a Metagross..” she tapped her fingers against the lesser-seen Heavy Ball, then finally to a Timer Ball ”…and Flygon.”
She glanced at the PC before nodding to it as well. ”Three others are in storage. What about you?” she asked, wondering how many pokemon they had in common, seeing as they both had originated in Hoenn.

He slid his hands in his pocket and turned to look at Alyssa. She was still trying to dry her hair, which he found kind of funny. Something about her interested Ruby greatly. She knew who he was, what he did, and where he went. She even had a Weavile like him. She had an Espeon while he had a Flareon, but they both come from Eevee. Maybe it was the similar pokemon. He couldn't put his finger on it, but he knew one thing. He wanted to know more about her. He turned away, leaving Jet to hang around her Weavile and Daybreak as he went towards the door. He peaked outside and saw that rain was still pouring down. It surprised him a bit because it seemed like it was coming down harder than before.
Sighing loudly, he turned back to Alyssa and walked over to her. Jet turned to look at his trainer and blinked with each step Ruby took. Finally, Ruby sat down next to Alyssa when he reached the bench she was on. He took a pokeball out and called Jet back inside of it. After the red beam disappeared, Ruby placed the ball into his bag and leaned back against the wall.
Looks like I'm stuck here until the rain calms down.
Ruby looked down at Daybreak and picked the Espeon up. Placing it on his lap, he began to stroke its back, petting it very softly. He then turned his head to Alyssa. She listed all of her pokemon. She named two pokemon he had as well. He blinked in shocked and amusement, hearing all the pokemon she carried.
Well, you've seen Jet. As for the others I carry, I've got Blitz, a Luxray. Rose, a Gardevoir. Scan, a Sceptile.
He took a moment to build up suspense. He would be surprised if it actually worked.
Shade, an Absol, and Skye, a Flygon.
He stuck his tongue out at her. They had three pokemon in common. Ruby knew something about her would peak his interest even more.

As she had spoken, Ruby had taken a seat next to her. Admittedly it surprised her a bit that he did so, but the surprise was quickly replaced by a bit of happiness. She hadnt made all too many friends on her pokemon journey, or started out with many. Meeting the few trainers she did now after the world had divided into Lux and Nox made any person she met that much more important in her life, particularly if they were Nox. She hoped that once everything in the world settled back to normal, she would be able to retain the comradery and friendships she built during the time of strife. In a sense, those could turn out to be some of the most powerful bonds she had with people.
He seemed disgruntled by the rain, Ruby did, for once he sat he had let a noticable sigh escape his lips as he called his Sharp-Claw pokemon back to its protective ball. Alyssa rested the towel around her neck, having efficiently dried off her hair, and watched Ruby’s further interaction with Daybreak. It honestly surprised her how well Daybreak was taking to Ruby. Although Daybreak was a perfectly friendly and peacable pokemon, she didn’t often to take to people right-off, and even less so to this extent. It warmed Alyssa’s heart to watch as the purple Sun Pokemon curled up in Ruby’s lap. Her beautiful violet eyes closed as she tucked her tiny paws beneath her body between Ruby’s legs.
As the trainer brought his hand lightly across her back, she slowly moved her forked tail to flick gently against his arm in a repititious pattern with each stroke he made. Her attention was pulled from the soft sight by the boy speaking again. He had a decent range of pokemon. She knew people could consider her team unbalanced thanks to the seemingly heavy loading of Psychic types, but what she was weak against in means of types was made up for with the range of attacks her pokemon had, and how strong they were because of the numerous years they’d all been together.
The white-haired Veteran nodded, smiling some one he stuck his tongue out at her. ”That’s quite impressive...” she said, the air of a chuckle in her voice. ”I have a Gardevoir as well...her name’s Aurora. She’s in storage along with Knight, my Gallade and King, my Kingdra.” She glanced down at Daybreak for a moment, reaching her hand down to gently stroke one of the large ears of her beloved companion. The ear twitched in response, and Daybreak yawned a bit. Alyssa gave a bit closer to a fuller chuckle.
”An Absol and Flygon, huh?” she said, practically repeating him for the moment. ”Both are very useful pokemon...and not exactly common from what I’ve seen in my years of battling other trainers.” Alyssa stated, a bit of a challenging grin upon her face. ”How long have you had both of yours?”
She paused for a moment before jumping slightly. ”Ah..! I almost forgot...” she reached to her belt for her other pokeballs, remembering that she still had only fed Daybreak and Weavile. ”D’you mind a bit of company?” she asked him, not wanting to suddenly overwhelm him with the appearance of more, and larger pokemon. ”I...havent fed the others yet...I told them I would give them a snack once I got here.” she laughed a bit sheepishly and pulled some hair out of her eyes. ”If your pokemon are hungry, feel free to let them out as well...” she said, after glancing around the Pokemon Center. There were very few other people, and they were clear on the other side of the large building.
”I’ve made more than enough for my pokemon...” she told him, hoping he understood that she was offering to feed his pokemon as well.

Ruby wasn’t expecting that kind of question. He didn’t really know himself. He was so busy with beating gyms and stopping Team Magma that he didn’t really stop to think about how long it took him. He looked to the ground for a minute unsure of how to answer. He opened his mouth, ready to answer when suddenly, Alyssa jumped up. She asked Ruby if she could release the rest of her party so they could have a quick snack. Ruby nodded and smiled.
Sure. You didn’t have to ask me. I don’t mind at all.
She then offered to give his pokemon some food. He fed them all a while ago, but he is kind of bad with time. He nodded and reached into his bag, taking out his pokeballs. Even though she asked him first, he went ahead and released his team. Out came Jet first. Followed by Shade, then Scan, then Blitz, then Skye, and finally, Rose. They all stood – and floated in Skye’s case – to the left of Ruby, away from Alyssa. Scan, the Sceptile, looked down at his trainer and saw the Espeon in his lap. He tilted his head and spoke up, muttering a “Hey!” that only the other pokemon understood.
You guys hungry? This is Alyssa, a new friend I made. She offered to give you guys some food. So don’t be shy and dig in. Also, don’t cause trouble. She’ll be letting her team out as well and we’re not here to battle.
All but Blitz nodded in agreement at the same time. Blitz, being his usual ‘not follow others’ self nodded last and walked towards Ruby. He lied down next to him and took a deep breath. Ruby looked down at him and chuckled, then looked at Alyssa.
I guess he isn’t hungry.

Her first inquiry about how long he’d had his pokemon remained unanswered, but Alyssa didn’t mind. He had made no remark on her sudden, almost child-like outburst of realization. She felt a small, genuine smile spread across her face when he gave her the go-ahead to release her pokemon. So many people she had met previously would have felt as though she was trying to show off, intimidate them, or just take up space. She never attempted to do something like that, as if she tried to flaunt what her years of hard work and dedication had presented as a consolation prize. She hated it when trainers arrogantly displayed their collections of pokemon, often closer to the rare side of things and potentially powerful. However, what Alyssa found was that collectors like that didn’t stop and think about their pokemon. They didn’t try to build friendships, reach their pokemon’s heart, or understand the creature that was at their command.
Truly, that sort of thing sickened her, and the main reason she ever let all of her pokemon out at once when the space was available – as the case was for Pastoria’s Pokemon Center – was so that she could see them. She watched Ruby as he reached into his bag, pulling out his pokeballs and releasing the pokemon he had mentioned previously. Alyssa smiled a bit when she determined that they all seemed relatively happy. In her time as a trainer, she’d been able to distinguish the subtle physical differences between a happy and unhappy pokemon. Glancing down, Alyssa watched Daybreak’s large ears twitched as all of the pokemon shifted to the left of their trainer, away from her trainer. She opened a deep, violet eye to look up when the tall, imposing Sceptile looked down at her. She had felt his gaze burning her fur.
Picking her head up slightly, she responded politely to his small, murmured greeting. ”Espeeee!”
”~Hello!~”
Her tail twitched slightly before she rested her head back down, against her paws and Ruby’s leg, though this time she kept her purple eyes focused intently on the Sceptile. Glancing to her right, where Weavile stood, she saw the Sharp-Claw Pokemon’s eyes go a bit wide. He hadn’t been expecting a sudden arrival of an entire team. Alyssa smiled a bit before pulling her shirt up slightly, out of the way of her pokeballs. She reached to her belt and clicked off the four pokeballs that still contained pokemon. Balancing them in her hands, she clicked the centers of them to release her party as well in the corner they seemed to have efficiently established as ‘theirs’.
The four beams of energy shot outwards, revealing the other pokemon on her belt. The forms of a Swampert, Metagross, Flygon, and Absol appeared, soon materializing into the team Alyssa had been with for a long while.
They all looked up in surprise to be greeted by a whole other entourage of pokemon, and she saw Absol – the fastest to fight in any situation – tense. Reaching out, she laid a hand lightly on his white-furred shoulder before speaking to them.
”As Ruby…” she gestured to the young man beside her, ”…just told his pokemon, we’re not here to fight. We’re here for all of you to enjoy a meal on this rainy day. Don’t cause trouble…” she glanced at Swampert and Amon, the two most likely to get into some sort of fight. Standing easily after replacing the pokeballs on her belt, she bent down and dug around in her large backpack before pulling out a bowl-platter-shaped dish. Her mother had given it to her a couple of years ago to be used for serving large parties of pokemon. She had gotten minimal use out of it and loved any occasion when she did.
She placed the bowl on the floor before emptying the bag of food, more than enough for all of the pokemon surrounding them. She had made it special – incorporating herbs, berries, various other fruits, bean paste, and rice together in something that was both healthy, and judging by the reactions of her pokemon when she’d first had them try it, delicious.
Her pokemon were hesitant at first, glancing at Ruby’s party as though unsure if they should let the others go first. However, Cannon made the first move after a bit of a pause. Using his psychic abilities, he picked up a few of the pieces of food and levitated them into his rarely-seen mouth. A rumbling, mechanical sound came from the Metagross, as though inviting all the other pokemon to join.
Sitting back in her chair, Alyssa sighed a little, smiling some as she watched her Flygon hover over to Ruby’s, above its head and looking at it curiously. It wasn’t often she came across another trainer with a Flygon, so naturally hers was curious, and a bit intrusive and ‘pokey’ in a friendly manner.
”I just hope they don’t mind eating food made by another trainer…” she said, laughing a bit. ”I know that some pokemon can be rather picky….”

All of her remaining part were from Hoenn, which made him feel at home. Metagross reminded him of Steven, while Swampert reminded him of Sapphire. Then there was Absol and Flygon, which he had as well. He smiled at all of them and brought his index and middle finger to his head. He saluted them quickly as a friendly greeting when Alyssa gestured to him. He waited for her to finish explaining that no one was here to fight and he nodded afterwards.
Nice to meet you all.
Ruby's pokemon were as hesitant as Alyssa's were. It was strange for them to see an entire other party just calmly in front of them. It was usually Sapphire or Wally that they would get released in front of without fighting. Then the first move was made. Alyssa's Metagross levitated some pieces for itself and then invited the others to join. RUby's team still made no move for a while. It wasn't until Blitz stepped forward and scooped some into his paw that his team began digging in. Ruby wasn't surprised by their hesitation at first. He didn't meet many new people that just wanted to sit around and chat. Even his friends and Steven fought him every now and then. Although they were enjoying Alyssa's food, each and every one of Ruby's pokemon, especially Scan, were all alert in case something were to go down.
Skye, on the other hand, did not join the others. Instead, it found itself being poked about by Alyssa's Flygon. It understood the curiousity. It wasn't everyday it met another Flygon. Skye poked back a few times, expecting some other reaction. But after a while, it finally moved back and waved to the other Flygon.
You can stop poking now. I am not an illusion.
Skye giggled a bit and blinked a few times as it hovered up and down at a steady pace. Ruby chuckled as well, amused by them. Turning back to Alyssa, he smiled.
Well, they aren't picky. But they sure are pokey.

It was a few moments of silence from Ruby’s team before they moved forward to start eating as well, seemingly a bit more at ease than they had been when they were first released. However, tension still made the air thick and heavy between the pokemon. Ruby’s party seemed to be enjoying the food that she had made, and she was happy for at least that much. If she ever offered another person’s pokemon food, she always expected the worst for the reason she had just stated. The pokemon of other people seemed to always be hesitant about food from other trainers, simply because they were so used to the food their trainer made them.
Flygon continued to poke his nose in the direction of Ruby’s Flygon until it spoke to him, hovering as well until it spoke to him. ”~Neat! I don’t meet other Flygons often.~” he lowered himself a bit, keeping his hovering closer to the ground than more in the air as it just had been. ”~So what does your trainer call you?~” he inquired, his curiosity dying down to less of the ‘intrusive’ side of things that it had just been. Alyssa couldn’t understand what her Mystic pokemon had just said to its counterpart, but at the least, she was glad that his curious and somewhat trickster-ish nature was coming in handy here…he didn’t seem at all afraid to break the ice with at least one of Ruby’s pokemon.
”Well, they aren’t picky. But they sure are pokey.”
Alyssa laughed a little at Ruby’s words. It seemed to be true. Skye, his Flygon, had been tolerant enough to let her Flygon poke at him with his rounded nose before poking back and exchanging words Alyssa failed to understand. ”Well, it’s better than nothing, eh?” she asked, looking down at Amon, who remained laying by her feet. His white-furred paws crossed over each other, his black claws glinting in the bright overhead lights from the ceiling of the pokemon center. His red eyes remained half-closed, but he was watching the situation with a guarded expression. He made no move to get food. He’ll probably take his share last… Alyssa thought.
She placed her hand on the top of his head, just below the sickle-shaped horn growing from the side of the Disaster Pokemon’s head. He glanced up at her before resuming his previous position. Looking at Daybreak, she smiled a little when the Sun Pokemon shifted a bit in Ruby’s lap, curling her tail closer to her body, and nestling the side of her face against his hand.
Daybreak’s large ears twitched at rumblings from another pokemon, who Alyssa could tell was Swampert. She cast her cerulean gaze in the direction of the blue pokemon, to see he was keeping his words directed at Ruby’s Sceptile. She was curious to what he had to say, seeing as he, along with Daybreak, was one of her first pokemon. He was protective of both her and her other pokemon, and often didn’t make an attempt to socialize without reason. He was one of her only pokemon that she trusted enough to battle on his own, without her instructions other than to initiate a battle in the first place.
Swampert’s orange gaze was turned upwards to look at the Sceptile, seeing as the green pokemon was little more than half a foot taller than him. ”~No need to remain wary…~” he told the grass-type pokemon between bites of Alyssa’s food. ”~We fight only when Alyssa instructs us. We are not savage like other pokemon, both trained and wild alike.~”
Glancing from the purple cat-like pokemon in his lap to Ruby, Alyssa thought for a moment before inquiring curiously,
”Hey…Ruby…what do you think of pokemon competitions?” she knew that was a wide-open question, because it could range from your everyday battle to contests, and even races, the latter of which she had in mind, struck by a sudden idea.

He was surprised that they were enjoying it. Even though they did not seem to enjoy Alyssa's pokemon. But, Ruby had a feeling as to why they were acting that way. Hesisitation had nothing to do with it. The fact that her team was almost identical to his was probably the reason. Skye was the only one to be enjoying the company of the other Flygon. Still, Ruby couldn't complain. He was surprised at first too.
Scan looked down at the Swampert when he started speaking. His words seemed to calm the Sceptile down a little bit. Shade overheard and approached the two. "That's good to know," the Absol said. Scan finished with the food in his hand before responding. "Ever since taking down Aqua, we've had nothing but random challenges. And with the war going on, it's not easy to stay relaxed."
Ruby noticed the trio exchanging words just before Alyssa spoke to him. It took his a minute to fully understand what she meant by that. He had a few ribbons from the free time of pokemon contests, but showing them after a question like that would definitely be showing off. Instead, an idea came into his mind, causing him to get up suddenly. Dropping Daybreak by mistake, he bent down and picked the Espeon up before placing her back where he was sitting.
Sorry Daybreak, but Alyssa gave me a wonderful idea. Alyssa! Let's have a race!
The idea of a race made his entire team stop what they were doing and look at him in confusion. Ruby looked at Skye and gestured for her to come to him. She quickly floated over to him just to embraced into a hug. Then, Ruby let her go and looked at Shade. Also being gestured, the Absol was at first wary of his trainer's thoughts. But eventually, walked across everyone to go by his trainer's side.
We'll have a race. Flygon and Absol are needed. Come on, I'll tell you the details outside.
Ruby turned around and dashed out the door, into the pouring rain, leaving his pokemon to be baffled. Shade and Skye exchanged looks with each other before turning back to Ruby and Alyssa's pokemon and then finally to Alyssa. Skye shrugged and floated out the door after him while Shade groaned and slowly walked out, followed by the rest of his party after a short akward silence.

Alyssa blinked in surprise when Ruby stood up suddenly, as though bitten by an invisible Spinarak. Daybreak fell off of his lap just as abruptly as he stood up, the suddenness of the movement causing her to let a startled cry from her mouth. ”~Espee!?~” Her paws scrambled at thin air for a moment before she thumped lightly to the floor. It hadn’t been a high fall at all, more like a startling one. She’d been dozing off in his lap, so suddenly being dumped ungracefully to the ground was a bit of a wake-up-call for the Sun pokemon. She looked up at Ruby, her large violet eyes blinking with confusion before he picked her back up and placed her on the chair where he’d just been. She stayed curled up for a moment before stretching some and sitting upright, curling her tail neatly around her paws. She yawned slightly before looking between Ruby and Alyssa.
”Sorry, Daybreak, but Alyssa gave me a wonderful idea!”
I did…? Alyssa wondered, what could have come from simply inquiring about pokemon competitions.
”Alyssa! Let’s have a race!”
…Oh That question had been answered easily enough. However, now she was more curious as to what he meant by a race. Both Ruby’s team and Alyssas had stilled and turned to look at Ruby and his sudden outburst of energy. Flygon tilted his head to the side when Ruby gestured to the mirrored pokemon next to him. She flew over to him easily, resting her arms over his shoulders in an easy hug, initiated by her trainer. Alyssa glanced down when he gestured to another of his pokemon – the Absol. Though it hesitated at first, it soon walked forward and stood beside his trainer.
Alyssa figured it smartest if she stood too, seeing as she was going to participate in whatever sort of race Ruby had in mind. Pushing herself up, she glanced down at her pokemon. Swampert was staring warily at Ruby, having stopped moving entirely. Alyssa could tell the sudden motion he gave, along with suggesting he and Alyssa go outside was something that set up a flag in the Mud Fish pokemon’s mind. Alyssa ignored that for the time though, and shifted her gaze to Cannon. The Metagross’ usually unreadable expression said something along the lines of, ‘You’re not actually going to go out in the rain, are you?’
Ruby had dashed off, leaving Alyssa and the pokemon alone. The white-haired girl couldn’t help but laugh a bit. It was so spontaneous, she couldn’t help but be intrigued by it. Running around in the rain was something she hadn’t done in ages….not since she was a teenager, at least. ”Swampert…” she said, moving forward and resting her hand between the black fins on his head. ”Make sure nothing happens? I’ll be fine…if I’m not Daybreak will let you know. Eh, Daybreak?” she turned to look at the Espeon, who leapt from the chair to land lightly on the flat surface of Cannon’s head. ”~Peeeee!~” she responded, nodding some before curling up, and resuming her attempt to nap.
Standing straight, Alyssa gestured to her Flygon and Absol, signaling them to follow. ”Amon, Flygon, come on!” she said, before taking off after Ruby, following him through the Pokemon Center doors and out into the torrential downpour that seemed to have worsened as the day drew on. The rain automatically undid anything Ruby’s towel had corrected while sitting in the warm Pokemon Center. Rain splattered her bangs and plastered her white hair to her head as she approached Ruby.
Back indoors, Swampert had watched his trainer leave before turning his gaze back to the Sceptile. ”~I prefer random challenges to the war…Alyssa hates the war, too. She doesn’t like to battle us much out of fear we’ll get hurt because of the brutal style pokemon trainers have begun taking on. And…what is your trainer up to? It’s not often I see someone who will run out in the rain spontaneously.~”
”A race?” she asked, raising her voice slightly over the sound of the rain. ”What do you have in mind?” she glanced at Flygon. He was enjoying himself, hovering in all directions as though playing in the rain, while Amon stood stiffly, not much enjoying the rain. Alyssa knew that he was only reacting to the weather this way because he’d been out of Hoenn for so long…or at least, his original habitat around Fortree, where it rained practically twenty-four/seven.
”Hopefully we don’t get washed away in the race!” she added, jokingly.

Jet was the first to actually face palm, leaving the others to just shake their heads. Rose, on the other hand, seemed to giggle at Ruby’s actions. She found it slightly humorous. Scan looked at Alyssa’s Swampert as it approached him once again. He listened to the words the water type had to say and nodded.
“Well, to be honest, the war matters a lot to Ruby,” he started. “With his father and best friend on the other side, it tends to get incredibly awkward when he runs into one of them. And it’s not often he runs into the rain like that, which surprises me as much as you.” “I think he’s just trying to enjoy life as it is now,” Jet interrupted. “At this point, nothing he does can surprise me.” Jet looked to the door and smiled.
Outside, Ruby stood next to a tree as he waited for Alyssa and the pokemon. Turning around, he noticed they all came out after him. Alyssa’s Flygon seemed to dance in the rain, apparently liking the good outdoors. Ruby grinned, and after Skye came next to him, he jumped up onto the Flygon’s neck and slid down to its shoulders, sitting against Skye’s wings.
I hope you've flown on your Flygon before cause that’s how we’re racing. I’ll be right back.
Skye grabbed Shade and, with Ruby on her shoulders, flew off forward into the forest. He spotted a fountain and placed the Absol on it. Ruby jumped off of the Flygon and went up to his Absol, petting it on the head.
Sorry Shade, but you’re gonna have to stay here for a bit. When Alyssa and I come, you’re going to need to use Night Slash, all right? Try and take one of us down. I’m counting on you, Shade. Make this race awesome.
Ruby grinned widely as the Absol nodded. He got back on Skye and few back over to Alyssa. He didn’t get off of his Flygon this time, but he had Skye float over to her.
All right, Alyssa, listen up. I’m going to need Amon to use Night Slash when we come back around. He needs to try and take one of us out of the sky with it, so don’t stop until one of us lands. We’re going to race, while riding our Flygon to the fountain ahead, where Shade will be waiting to do the same thing. Then, we race back and finish.

Alyssa’s pokemon remained more or less confused by the action her trainer had just taken, in following Ruby’s similar action that had spurred her into doing what she had. Cannon was the first to resume eating slowly, every once and a while levitating a piece of Alyssa’s food to rest on the top of his body, in front of Daybreak’s muzzle for whenever she woke up. Weavile had scratched his head with his long claws, finally shaking his red mane of sorts before nibbling on the food again. Swampert kept his orange gaze trained on the green Sceptile as it responded to his words. So Ruby had two people close to him fighting on the opposite side, huh? Swampert gave a sympathetic rumble, from deep within his throat. Though he hardly knew the trainer, he could tell that something about him had brought back the somewhat childlike eagerness in Alyssa to do something like play a game, especially in a time like this.
Being apart from two people that would be close to you had to be rough.
Swampert turned his gaze down to the black-and-red Weavile that spoke shortly after the Sceptile. Enjoy his life huh? Looking back up, towards the doors Alyssa had just ran out, he figured that his beloved trainer was trying to do the same thing. She had spent so much of her life traveling most of the pokemon world and training them almost to the point of collapsing. They were strong now because of that, and they had not lost a battle in ages, and Alyssa took pride in it. Her success with them had made her name known throughout her home region, and the three other regions she’d been to, though not as much. She’d started on the road of achieving one of her dreams before the war broke out.
”~That must be rough…~” Swampert said, taking another bite of the food before continuing. ”~Alyssa never made too many friends on her journey…she kept to herself a lot and focused on training us. She talked to people every now and then outside of battling them, but otherwise Ruby is probably the most I’ve seen her consistently interact with a single person. It’s probably good for her.~” Swampert resumed chewing, and Weavile took over after her other pokemon listening nodded some. ”~Alyssa’s parents are with Lux, too. Her hometown is actually Lux territory at the moment. She can’t go home until Nox gets the town back, or the war ends. The main thing Alyssa is focused on is trying to end this war without hurting too many people or pokemon. She hates it, but will see to it that it finishes as soon as possible.~”
Outside, thunder rumbled rather quietly overhead, giving Alyssa the impression that the storm would grow stronger soon. That only adds an element of adventure to this race, then! she thought excitedly, watching as Ruby moved, leaping easily on top of his Flygon’s back. She listened to him explain the challenge. A flying race, eh? She looked at Flygon and smirked as Ruby flew off, his Absol safely in the arms of his own Flygon. Luckily enough she’d spent the money to buy vitamins for her pokemon to make them healthier, not to mention better and faster battlers. That could probably apply hear as well. While Ruby dipped behind the trees, towards the marshy ground in the forests surrounding Pastoria, Alyssa whistled for Flygon, summoning the green dragon instantly to her side, where he remained hovering.
She reached up and placed her palm on his nose. ”You ready for a race, Flygon?” the green pokemon nodded eagerly, all tiredness from the fly here forgotten, his body now trembling with excitement. Shortly after, she heard Ruby’s voice again. The soft humming from Skye’s wings had been drowned out by the rain, making their approach almost silent. She listened as he explained what exactly was supposed to happen. That seemed fun, and challenging enough. Looking at Amon, she noticed the Disaster Pokemon’s red eyes were wide with disbelief, though his jaw remained closed.
She figured he was wondering if Ruby was serious…to attack not only another pokemon and trainer outside of battle, but his own teammate and trainer as well? Alyssa smiled a bit and walked over to him, crouching slightly to be at eye level. She placed her hands beneath his chin and looked at him. ”You can do as Ruby says….I trust you, Amon…” she said. She knew her pokemon was worried that one of them would actually get hurt. However, what she couldn’t sense was the empowering feeling that had come over the Absol. He nodded and held his ground, looking at Ruby.
Turning around, Alyssa jumped easily onto Flygon’s back, situating herself just between his wings on his shoulders. His clawed hands grasped his trainers legs lightly, holding her in place as he always did in case he would need to perform some emergency, or in this case, not-so-emergency acrobatics in flight.
”Alright, Ruby…it’s a race you have.” she said, grinning in mock challenge. ”But I warn you…I wont take it easy on you!” she laughed a bit before urging Flygon to hover next to Skye, his eyes narrowed with determination, the ‘friendly challenge’ aspect failing to reach him as easily as it did his trainer. Looking over at Ruby, she curled her fingers tighter against Flygon’s long neck before preparing the mental countdown. Her cell phone against her hip buzzed with the reception of an unexpected text message.
Bah… she thought. I’ll get it later..
”Ready?” she asked, glancing at him one last time.
”Set..” Flygon tensed, curving his neck forward.
”Go!”
With that, Flygon took off, propelling himself off the muddy ground with his hind legs, and a flick of his tail, cracking like a bullwhip against the earth. ”Easy Flygon..” she murmured. Alyssa didn’t want her pokemon to burn out in the first leg, because any sort of race she’d ever been in, she’d proven to be more of the sort to come from behind.
This’ll be fun.”
